    72 Mhz

Since most most rc aircraft use 2.4, I don’t see a problem using 72 mhz. I doubt you’ll run into an issue on the pond with an aircraft. Comments?

From what I've heard 72 mhz has a range of around 2-3 miles (5 if conditions are right). So, how sure are you that on the day you're out on the pond driving your sub someone with a plane with old school tech ( 72mhz) a couple of miles away is setting up? If you could mess up his flight he can mess up your dive. At the end of the day someone's going home with just a transmitter.

I found a couple of transmitters/receivers that use 6 meter ham frequencies. I’m allowed to use them, but there is risk a fellow ham might be running 100 plus watts on my frequency running my boat into the next river. Could happen, but very unlikely.

Yeah, I know. 2.4 GHz and an antenna above the sail. That’s fine. But what about the poor slob who has a 2k plus investment in a sub, showing off to an interested party, when all of the sudden he hits the throttle or dive planes, the boat goes under, and seeing as he has no safeguard to blow ballast, it’s like good night see you in the next life?

I think it all depends on your location. For me living in a big urban city, it's very unlikely for someone to fly a 72mhz RC airplane a few miles from my sailing pond. We even have strict rules on operating drones that run on 2.4Ghz here (i.e. only drones below a certain weight threshold can fly in the city, for hobby purposes). Realistically, I see no issues running 72 mhz on a sub where I live, as time goes on, most if not all RC flyers will have moved onto 2.4Ghz. I browse Ebay frequently looking for whatever 75mhz receivers are out there. I was lucky enough to snag two 5ch synthesized 75mhz Rx a few years ago, but recently the second hand market seems to only have 2-3ch radio gear.

I don’t know any rc plane folks still on 72. Matter of fact, I’ve never seen any rc planes within 10 miles of where I run. Only drones on 2.4.

Your choice. Actually planning to do just that with an old 6 ch JR propo radio I got.

72mhz is good for FPV,with a 72mhz RF module, you can operate your UAV at a long distance (10km is a relatively easy distance) and take pics at a very beautiful resort .Nowadays we use 433mhz RF &RX to reach a longer distance, more safer and reliable,of course 433mhz is for the air frequency.
Aerial photography is a great hobby where the operator remotely controls the drone from a fixed position and allows the drone to fly far away to take some beautiful pictures. The picture below is of my hometown Nanjing, a beautiful, historic capital of the Six Dynasties. The aerial shots of the night scene are always so stunning.

I'm thinking that you should be ok at the RC channels at 50.8 and up since the beacons are below 50.8 and RTTY and repeaters are above the RC channel band plan ? I'm building my first sub(s) this winter and was thinking of taking this approach.

Beautiful Chinese cities. Glad I had not seen this sort of stuff when I was on the WEBSTER, as most of our target package was Chinese cities.

Apparently Deterrence works! For nine patrols I was part of a system that, had it failed, would have reduced millions of Chinese citizens to dust. Glad things (so far) have worked out for all concerned.

I'm building my 1st sub this winter, 1/72 Moebius Skipjack, and have bought a 4-ch Hitec and a 7-ch Airtronics in 72mhz from ebay new in the box. It was like opening a time capsule with all the documentation and even the original sales receipts with them. My sailing pond is 3'-4' deep and extremely unlikely to see any aircraft in the area so that's what I'll be running with a Channel flag of course for all the others doing the same.
