Those water tite cans have similar type hatches for the ammo cans, mine containers, rubber rafts, ect that are externally installed on the decks. Various size cans in different areas for particular aplications. If the ones on that wintergarden are for the Focker FA 330 autogyro, I dont see the crossbar on the upper railing for the launch platform.Click image for larger version

      Von Hilde,

If you take a closer look at the rear near the containers, you can see the launch platform, it's folded back against the containers, smarty Germans.

The second from the bottom, U2345, looks like a complete coating of rust. The last photo looks like it is painted black. Interesting.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I notice a temporary wood platform forward of the tower on the 2 launch pictures of 2332 and 2333 and no "factory" wood decking on them or any of the other actual operational boats pictures. Those 2 were built in Kiel at the same time launched respectivley oct 18 1944 and Nov 16 44 and stayed at the 5 flottile for training untill may 45 and scuttled. Perhaps that was a temporary fix just for post launch maintainance. U2345 was launched in sep 44 and went to 32 flottile and remained untill surrender and went down in operation deadlight by the RN off of Ireland may 8 45. The earlier pictures with the light grey and the number quickly scribbled on the tower were over painted with schwartsgrau early 1945 after the 8th airforce started concentrating on the shipyards and northern Germany's industrial complexes. The numbers that were eventually painted on the towers were rather large and bold, like on the U 2336 Twords the end of the war they were launching what few they could with no paint untill the bombings destroyed most of the yards and surrounding areas. Some just had chalk numbers scratched on rusty metal , that never got launched but were ready to go when the allied troops finally arrived in the spring 45
