To HWSNBN Part Specs and Source Help Please

    Hello

I see that I am going to have to make a few things for my sub needs so I have decided to ask the Master himself for his guidance. Can you please tell me the Size and supplier source for:
    1) The O ring for your 1/8" push rod seal?
    2) The Cup Seal for your 1/8" drive shaft seal?
    3) The Cup Seal for your 3/16" drive shaft seal?
    4) The O ring for your Torpedo launcher breech mechanism that holds the torpedo nozzle?
    5) Is there an O ring in 1/16" shaft as a seal?

Thanks for your Time and Help

    George,
Why are you thinking of torpedoes? Should you not build a sub first?
    Peace,
    Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

      Hi Tom
Yes I have one sub nearly done BUT I have discovered that I have bad shaft seals so I have to pull them and replace them from my old old S.D. Since I don`t know if I can still buy them from Mr. Caswell and I would like the ability of being able to make my own shaft and drive seals as need for future needs also.
That same sub would be nice if it had torpedos and from what I`ve learned, they are NOT sold anymore by Mr. Caswell so I have to make them myself. I need the above original post specs and sources so that I can do that.
Any help for the above from HWSNBN OR others would be appreciated.

      Thanks
      George

Here in the UK, a very popular method of sealing shafts is to use an adjustable compression gland with a silicone o-ring. The difference in friction between an o-ring and the purpose built oil seals (e.g. simmerrings) is negligible, but it's very easier and cheaper to replace o-rings as they cost pennies. O-rings are also more flexible in their range of sizes. The snag is you have to make a glanded fitting, and I'm afraid this means the use of a lathe, something many modellers seem reluctant to invest in, even though they can be picked up quite inexpensively secondhand.

Commercial items tend to offer restricted choice.

          Hi Subculture
Thanks for your reply. To be honest, not sure if I understood your part terminology used. Any chance you can show some pictures? Also Yes I have a metal lathe and look forward to any excuse to use it, if I have picture / measurements.
And to HWSNBN, if I could get a reply to my emails, when you can please, it would be VERY HELPFUL.

              Hi redboat219
Interesting work! My only issue is that if you are using a bigger WTC then you have the room for them BUT if your using a smaller WTC, you don`t have the space on the End Caps and the weight factor also.

I was hoping to go the same route as the originator / creator HWSNBN but with a little twist BUT I need the size and source for what he uses in his seals, drive shaft, servo seals.

              Thanks for the help though.

If you're concerned about weight you could swap out the brass fittings with plastic ones.

FYI, got the photos from one of HWSNBN's post.
