I've probably mentioned this a dozen times, but I like to remind myself and others of the sacrifices my dad and his submarine pals made in their fight against The Japanese. Dad was in HMS Sybil when she surfaced in Singapore Harbour after The Japanese surrendered on Aug 15 1945.

Dad occasionally talked of the smell of Singapore Harbor being perfumed by fresh baked bread, which they used to make corned beef sandwiches to feed the poor souls, so this photo seems appropriate. Whether these men were actual prisoners in Changi Jail, I am not sure.
Here's a link about those times on BBC online news.
