Hello Lance. In the old format I was instantly able to see all of postings that I have not read. When I had read a post the little icon would no loger apear. I for the life of me can't locate this feature on the new format causing a great waste of time. Kind regards, Myron

Here is a work around until they program a new post button.
1) Select "Search\Advanced Search"
2) Select Date range and put in from date and to date like from july 24 to july 27
3) Then select green search now button.
Not great but gives you a page of the most recent posts.Comment

Lance, please do a fix for all of us! I've noticed there is almost NO new posts since the upgrade and I'm pretty sure this is the reason?Comment

Scott, you did it again! Good work. I tried it and it worked. Thank. Yes, this forum is now a bit harder (without your fix) to read in the morning.

The best fix would be to go back to the old format. My uneducated guess is at least 50 % of the old followers were dumpped. Thats potential customers that will flounder elsewhere. I myself having dificulty navagating thru this minefield have lost interest in keeping up, Something I seldom do, or should I say did. Now Im just a crankey old salt since I stopped working on the models. Wife thinks I should seek professional help. My best buddy Tigger the cat, and I were attacked by africanised bees, now he is blind in both eyes. I got hit by 9 of em, dont know how many got him, but he isnt doing so well being 11 years old. He was my PTSD release, better than a valium. Those bees are nasty agressive. Even the bee keeper I called to remove the hive said No way Jose" Call Orkin!Comment

Sorry about the cat, Dave.
This forum and the catalog are but a very, very small portion of the Caswell business. I believe the webmaster here, Lance, is stuck with the entire package, for big and small business activity. We're the guys who have to make adjustments, not the mountain that is Caswell enterprises. I don't like it either, but that's life in the big city, guys.

Sorry David, but I disagree! As someone who has visited both you and Mike and count as friends, I really don't believe this is the way forward. Or is it that you and Mike want to wind down? I really don't believe this but your comment could make one think so?Comment

Hopefully she can regain some of her sight. (owner of three 1, 5, 18 years)
@ all of you
Damned.
Come on guys, get over it. Use the forum to spread the craft of model building.
Maybe the new format isn't great but what the hell, we use the workarounds just as we do when we encounter difficulties during our build no?
In the already small remains of the model boat building niche we are neglectable with our submarines.......it was ever so and it will ever be......we knew this when we started no?
Is it fair? No it is not, but we have to deal with it.
And now as you got me going I will add some stuff to think about.
Are we gone start another forum?....THATS A GOOD IDEA.......ONE MORE THAT will make the difference. Doing that it will even be harder to find information when somebody wants to start building subs.....diversification is the way to go....keep up the good work.
Is that the way we want to go to promote our hobby?
I post my building progress on 3 US/UK and 1 Dutch forum now….not to show off……but to reach as many people as possible. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND TIME CONSUMING……..to use some famous words…….........WHATS WRONG WITH US?
In my humble opinion there are too many forums SP(subpirates), SC(subcommittee), SD(SubDriver), AMS (associationofmodelsubmarines), .....
When you’re reading yourself trough the forums you can sometimes sense the bad blood between some of them.
As an outsider I don't play the game and I don't care, but I do understand that there are 1000 different opinions……but are they worth starting a war for?
From time to time I’m a victim of this bad blood, If I ask a question on a forum and refer to David Merriman in the same sentence I never receive an answer from the big boys who know the answer for sure. I’ts OK if you are in kindergarten, but as adults? Come on.
So YES you are dragged towards the Forums where you do get answers and feel at home. But I ignored all this and kept posting.
But It's crazy, we are all into the same hobby and we are with such a small group of people Worldwide doing RC Subs.
EVERY FORUM IS A TREASURE WHEN YOU START BUILDING A RC SUB, THEY ALL DESERVE POSTING, THAT’S THE SADNESS OF IT.
And NO I’M NOT A PRIEST OR SOMETHING
and NO I HAVE NO BUSINESS WITH SD WHATSOEVER
and YES I LIKE THIS FORUM BECAUSE INFORMATION IS SHARED HERE NO MATTER WHAT.
And we let this all go because of some minor difficulties?

Grtz,
BartYeah, we got a cat too. Nothing but trouble. This shot taken shortly after we had him 'fixed'.
I endorse everything Bart has said about this forum thing. Adapt or die, guys. How's that for blunt?
One more thing. Though the USA has the most r/c submarine forums per capita on the world scene, that fact does not denote quality. As it is, we American's are the *******-red-headed-step-child of the worlds r/c model submarine community; our stuff, in comparison to the European guys, just plain old sucks! Just look at Germany's Sonar forum, look up the work of Lentz, Brugen, and Perrott and realize what a back-water place the US is in all things r/c submarines.
Yeah, there's bad-blood between American forums. And I'm a big part of that. But, that's another story. But Bart's point is that we, in the United States (and Bart's non-US perspective gives import to his observations), have fragmented to the point of not being able to sustain criticality; our already weak voice in the community is further attenuated by the break-up that has occurred over the years as the respective American 'leaders-in-the-field' have petulantly taken their balls and went home.
However, the situation here is righting itself. The SC is stagnant and diminishing in importance; SubPirates died the minute I left it; and HobbyTalk and other sites that feature r/c submarine forums are hit-and-miss at best. Mr. Caswell's forum here, where I reign supreme, is for the elites in the game. Here I make it a point to challenge each and everyone who comes here with an implied: 'contribute or get the **** out'. The result? Well, look at our contributor's. Some of the best in the game. And the Sub-driver forum grows in numbers AND quality. Quality is what we strive for, not numbers. This is the place for the elite, not also-rans.
Yeah, we've had a forum format change. We don't like it. Tough. Learn it. Or, get the **** out and beat your chest about the unfairness of it all at the SC forum.

Thanks for the condolences on Her Kaloin Tigger Von Jiggs, I really appreciate it. As far as the format goes I can deal with it. Like getting a new horse, ya gotta get use to the gate. But one thing I have learned in 72 years, the baby that don't cry, don't get no milk. And, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. I don't go on other forums much, This place is where I ended up when I first decided to even attempt to build a sub. Mainly it was because I had applied to the subcommittee so I could pick brains on how to go about making one operational. Dave Merriman being one of the gurus with experience, was there, and at that time, there was some difficulty joining and then poof! He pops up here, the rest is history. Caswell, been berry berry good to me, I don't mind saying, I won't be going anywhere, but the grave. In the mean time I have to shuffle some boats around, to make room for the bigger ones. I will be maintaining the builds and posting, as usual.Comment

Please keep posting feedback. I've added a new button to the forum which should resolve your issues. See attached image. This software is off the shelf, meaning that functional changes are not always possible. I can code, but it would take me years to learn all the function hooks and intricacies of VBulletin, and I'm running 3 businesses and about 10 web sites. Thankfully, adding this button was an easy fix. Also, it is not possible to downgrade this software. Older versions develop bugs, which can lead to break ins. We must constantly upgrade to ensure that the information on all our web sites is secure and safe.1 PhotoComment
