    1/35 XXIII build

    Hey guys!

Just started work on my 1/35 xxiii, and really enjoying the process so far. This is my first sub build, and I have to thank all of u for educating me through this form. I've been reading as much as I can and it's been educational.

So I mocked up the model with tape and rubber bands to give myself an idea just how big this model is and wow...
Removed all the interior bulk heads as to make room for the sub driver.
then began work on the snorkel.
lastly I decided to cut an access panel for the rudder bell crank and after some putty work it will be held down with magnets.

Gotta start prep work now to cut the hull.......

    more pics to come

Excellent start there! Since you already modded your snorkel, I can not wait to see what else you will do. You picked a really good sub for a first timer. The Revell/Moebius Skipjack is the other great first timer sub. What I like about this boat is you can go as crazy as you want on details. The Bronco kit is great out of the box or, as some of us are doing, adding things to make it suit our level of craziness. I have cure able craziness, David and Manfred, well let's just say they had to replace the padding on the walls several times. You know what I mean? We are here to help, so ask questions if you need.
    Peace,
    tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

" I have cure able craziness " haha

        thanks Tom.

Worked some more on the snorkel securing the window screen mesh alittle better and working on the illusion that it was coated in Alberich

Glued the hull halves together last night kinda a pain in the ass process due to the fact they don't line up perfectly, so I opted to have the deck of the boat level since it will be most obvious. Also the bulk heads in the bow of the boat by the torpedo exists... Do u remove them? I drilled holes to allow water in and air out.

Next onto securing the prop thrust bearing to one side of the hull, what glue do u use here? CA ? Was gonna smear a small amount of jb weld. After that it's close it all up and prepare for the waterline cut.

Either will work on that propeller shaft foundation. It never hurts to rough up the contacting surfaces with sandpaper or Dremel before the Adhesive, helps make an aggressive bond. Your work looks real good Sir.
IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!

Perfect opted just now for jb weld so that I have a bit of working time if things go not as planned.

here are the pics of the bulk head I had mentioned. I just added holes to allow water to flow in and out instead of having it as a "dry" space when the hull halves are all glued together.

Did you add drain holes to the bottom of the bow or inside bulkhead? Looking at the last photo, the hole on the side of the bulkhead looks a bit too high. Water will remain inside the cavity everytime you pull the boat out of the water. You'd have to tilt the boat on it's bow or tail to drain the water out.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

Update. Drilled the drain holes in the fwd bulkhead. Also removed the small amount of material at the top of the hull where the rudder pushrods passes. Just finished glueing the hull together, gonna take a short break from the hull till I'm ready to cut the water line for the sub driver. Canada post says the sd should arive tomorrow or Monday. :)

Yes noted ! I'll add two more drain holes lower onto the bulkhead as so that it can drain back into the main hull and out.

Some progress today on the horizontal snorkel that was supplied with my sub driver for the xxiii.
Used the foundation slab off one of the supplied figures in Dave's fittings kit, to make the mounting platform.
Is cork sufficient to close the toilet valve? I prefer this setup over foam.

Worked on two of the figures and modified them in a manner I found interesting.

Cork is fine -- whatever floats your boat. Nice work on the figures.

                          More pictures!!!

Ok some work done this evening. Mounts jb welded down for the sail, also drilled holes in areas air bubbles could be trapped.

The hull had much of the same treatment done, regarding air release holes.

Excellent. If you're not going to mount the up-periscope video camera housing, then why not put the snorkel mechanism up forward?
