Some recent builds - Type VII and Disney Nautilus

Sort of off-topic-ish, but I wanted to share a couple of my recent builds.

The first is a Revell Type VII build that I've actually completed as a gift for Herbert Groenemeyer.. Some of you might remember him as the lieutenant with the camera from "Das Boot". I met him in person in New York recently and we exchanged information. This should be on its way to him within the next few days, hopefully. She's modeled as the fictional U96 from the film:

The second is also a display model. I tried my hand at another waterline Nautilus build, so I had to figure out how to model rough water. Lots of trial and error, but I think it turned out pretty good, all things considered!:

I like the underwater green glow, like the opening of the movie.
      Nice details on the U96!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Didn't U96 sport the Laughing Sawfish emblem?

Wow! That Nautilus is really great Bob! I kept looking at it and I thought for a while that it was really water. I was wondering how you were keeping it from splashing all over the floor. I like the way you have the water rolling over the hull from starboard to port. Very Realistic! By the way, did Herbert ever figure out who it was that threw the greasy rag at him?
IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!

Sweet! I've seen this sort of special effect of turbulent water on a Diorama presented at the 2012 IPMS show in Orlando, however the use of clear material really adds a nice touch, especially when wanting to introduce light from beneath the surface as you have included. The color scheme on the Nautilus itself is spot on IMO, as are the colors used to attain just the right shade of water. It all has obviously come together exceptionally well. It will certainly make quite a conversation piece when displayed, and its owner very happy with the overall results of this project. Needless to say the U-boat turned out very nice as well, Mr. Groenemeyer should be pleased.
Btw, thanks for all the information, Bob.
