32nd Parallel Type XXIII build - working torpedoes!

I'm a tardy poster, but thought I'd post up some pictures of my current project, a 1/32 scale Type XXIII coastal sub.

This is another commissioned build and the customer has had this kit since 1985. The original invoice was still in the box! The hull got a lot of scratchbuilding attention to try and improve visual interest. I added a lot of details to the conning tower and added weld lines along the hull. The stock dry hull configuration was scrapped in favor of a new 2.5" SD unit. The torp launchers ended up being a combination of the original parts and a version of Dave's torp system. I think I could do a better job of making a simpler and easier to build system if I had to do another set, but these work great in the meantime.

A few pictures and some video of my first shots with the torpedo system. A comprehensive video will be done when the boat is complete. Until then, here's what I've got to share:

RC Submarines and how I built them, remote controlled and fully functional subs.

Great work, Bob. That 32nd Parallel kit is a toughy to assembly. And good work with that torpedo and launcher.

That makes me feel better for not already having mine assembled.. I am giving some serious thought to the 2.5" SD for this model. I like how Bob only had to remove the bow and stern walls of the stock pressure box and not the entire box. Simon's Versilok, was and still is, STRONG stuff! I did not want to try to attempt to extract that entire box from the hull!

Bob, please post a video of this XXIII running in the water when you are finished with her. I want to see how she functions with that 2.5" SD.

Bob used our 'standard' 2.5 SD. I'm into series production of the type-23 specific Sub-driver:

"type-23 specific Sub-driver".. Now that is interesting to hear! As it evolves, post more photos please!

I see that single screw motor bulkhead.. I can already imagine the 23 "Propeller of the Gods", mounted on the aft end of that propshaft..

            Hi Bob,

What materials did you use for your torpedo body and endpieces?
Also, how did you make your torpedo launcher breechblock?
Looking over photos on you site there seems to be a wheel collar.

Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

When its all done I'll have a full video showing how I did everything for everyone. Basically the wheelcollar pushes the weapon off the seal rather than using a burp of gas. It still features Dave's breechblock idea to prevent misfiring, although that is actually overkill in this model because I put a block on the trailing edge of the torpedo doors so that you can't fire unless they're open.
