    Seehund Scale 1:35

    I've started to work on the Seehund, the hull was made by my mentor, he also made the provisions for steering the rudder and diveplanes and placed a E motor complete with the shaft to propel it.

    I presume he started with making a mold of the Verlinden Seehund, the dimensions of his hull are exactly the same, in the past i bought the same kit, i can use the PE parts and other parts to make me a working Seehund.

    This where I am now, placed two micro servo's, hooked up the receiver and took a print from a normal servo as a ESC, still have to do some testing.

    Manfred, several queries about your creation.

    -What motor are you using?
    -How do you actuate the rear diveplane and rudder with that tiny space?
    -How do you seal your shafts and control rods?
    Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

      The E motor is a 6V motor from a old servo, don't know the brand
      Same way as with the big boats, only using rods 0,6 mm thick to steer everything
      Little O rings used at the propellorshaft and diveplanes, the tip of a seringe with a vaselinechamber used for the rudder, it has to be watertight as possible, no high waterpressure involved since it will be a dynamic and surface runner.

          It will be a dryhull, just like the Bibers, you need all the room you can get with this tiny boats.

            This is the torpedo i want to use, they are shorter are my normal torps, normally i use them to fire from the reartube of my type VII.

            I made some movable clamps which will hold the torps in place, this is the secured position.

            It is not scale, but seen from this angle it doesn't look too wrong to me, now i have to link up the release mechanism to a servo, back to the tweezers.

              I ended up with building a plate which can hold the servo, used a 0,6 mm rod to connect the servo to the releasemechanism.

              After several times fitting i could determen the lenght and shape of the rod, believe me, big boats are better.

              And finally placed into his final position, the trick was, using as much tweezers you can get and a headlight to give you some light during the operation.

              Wiring up the new ESC, the old one gave me flutter on the servo's, this a big no no, because it will launch the torpedo's pre-mature.

              I added a inner tube with a connector at the bottom.

              Modified a figure with a connector at the bottom, the idea is, once you put this guy into the hatch it will activate the boat by closing the circuit, the inner tube is also used to vent the boat when she has to get used to the temparture of the water.

                  Madness indeed, the first one who tells me building small boats is easy can run for his life.
                  On the other hand me love Rube Goldberg, i like to build things with a challence, so a seehund capable of shooting torps is a plus, the scale that is another story.

                    I decided this week to play with the torpedo's, to be more precise, finding out where the magnets have to be placed,

                    Ended up with keeping the body of the torp at his place with tape, measured up what the exact position of the body will be.

                    You can see the magnets at their place on both sides of the servo, believe me it was not done quick, the room inside is terrible and you need three hands to get things done.

                    Also found out i made a mistake with the hatch, the hinge had to be at the front, took the soldering iron and corrected it. the result can be seen in the first picture of this post.

                    Together with the kit come some resing parts which make up the scope and antenna, this will be duplicated into copper, just to be sure it will not be knocked off, so back to the cave for some more work.

                      And this will be the general layout which will be placed inside the Seehund, from left to right, receiver, ESC, 2 servo's for both the rudder and rear dive planes, the 3 thrd servo is inside the hull for launching the torpedo's.

                      Rebuilded the old transmittor to a spare one, the old one sometimes defaulted itself from nothing, you don't that want to happen when driving your boat.



                      For now i have to make some provisions to add some lead inside and come up with a secure way to place the batterypack inside, also reprogramming the newly rebuilded transmittor for my boats and testing all functions of both the transmittor and boats.

                          Thanks Will, it will take some time, as for the models, i allways want to know what is possible or not, i've got me a serious Rube Goldberg syndrome, if it won't work i've got me some nice static models.

                            I has been some time since my last post, they diagnosted cancer with SWMBO, she's operated and recovering, giving me time to put on the lights in the Cave,

                            Made the charging points in the keel, marked them with the right polarity, inside the plus connection there is a diode present, so there will not be a short between the connections when put inside the water.

                            Finding a way to place some of the batteries ,first made a mockup with some ducktape, those two are present at the rear, the others will be placed inside the front of the hull

                            Had everything inside and the servo of the torpedo release burned out during testing, so i had to take apart the boat to replace this.

                            This is where i stand now, slapped on some paint and she is sealed with the use of RTV, ready to do some watertight testing this weekend.

                            Procedure of testing will be simple, weigh the boat when dry, weigh the boat when wet, leave it for some time in the water and weigh it again, when no leaks the weight will be stable, when not, i have to search where the leak is coming from.
