USS SARGO (SSN 583) STATIC MODEL 1/96 Scale

USS SARGO (SSN 583) STATIC MODEL 1/96 Scale

I built and donated to the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum several 1/96 award winning display scale models in the 1990's. Its time again to build another for them Tom Anderson was kind to offer his 3 D printer services and print up Randy Sanders of Alberta Canda a modified skate designed in 1/96 for static display custom for me. Thank you gentlemen! I will be starting a thread along with my Suffren and Amythyste building threads here a Skate static model.

SimultaneouslyTom Anderson is now printing me a 1/48 scale Skate also of USS Sargo for RC operation. Randy's Sanders designs once more! The hull parts for the 1/48 are different and designed for a hull to accommodate my cherished 3.5-inch OTW dive module. Using a Dave Merriman Prop Shaft Splitter (thank you David Merriman and Louis Perez who made the custom-made gears) converting the OTWs motor shaft energies two new Keith Bender 1/48 L and R handed props.

USS Sargo represents a historical and technological benchmark for both the USN and particularly Mare Island Naval Shipyard. (MINSY). Mare Islands first nuclear-powered submarine. Mare Island NSY on the US West coast in Vallejo California already was a highly capable invocative quality Naval yard known for its quality shipbuilding, repairs, and submarines. Many famous WW2 submarines were built there. USS Silversides, USS Wahoo, USS Tang among others. Sargo was one of the four Skate class , the navys first SSN Class, work divided among Electric Boat (the lead yard) and Portsmouth NSY and Mare Island NSY to transform the nuclear submarine from a custom experimental fleet unit into series production and allow the Naval infrastructure to new technology and higher quality control levels procedures and protocells. Thiis ushering in the Rickover era

A new USS Sargo (SSN 583) heads out for her first trials sailing down the Napa River channel past the Mare Island Naval Shipyard
from where she was built. Underway on nuclear power into San Pablo Bay, San Francisco Bay and the wide Pacific Ocean where she would spend
almost or all of her entire operational career based out of Pear Harbor Hawaii.

    Question:

Those stern tubes, were there any streamlining covers involved?
i mean, compared to the contemporary NOVEMBER, this looks like a Holland class...

USS Sargo at Launch Feb 1956. Skate class was SCB 121 Design and was already well past redesign and were building when Nautilus SSN 571 had her successful sea trials. The trials revealed how noisy Nautilus was, so the Skates show features before major noise reduction measures.
