I prefer to mount brushless motors just like brushed motors, with the shaft sticking though the motor mount. Unfortunately because of the drones, this configuration is getting harder to find. However, it is fairly easy to change with some basic tools. You will need an appropriate allen wrench, a screwdriver, and something to support the end bell as you press the shaft through.


Start by removing the allen screw that holds the shaft in the end bell.

Next remove the clip that is holding the shaft on the other end.

You should be able to pull the motor apart now.

Put something inside the end bell to support it during the pressing operation. I generally just grab a socket out of the toolbox. You can use an arbor press or a drill press to push the shaft from one side to the other. With some care, you should also be able to use a vise or even a C-clamp.

When using the drill press, I just close down the chuck bottom and use the bottom as my pressing surface. I'm using the steel strap to support the socket as the hole on the drill press table is too big. Here's the motor reassembled.

The fact that it no longer has the clip to keep the stator and rotor together is not a problem. The magnets are strong enough to keep the rotor centered. As long as you have proper thrust bearings, the prop will not be able to push the motor apart.
