    O-ring Lube

What can I use to lubricate the o-ring seals for the drive shaft and control linkages?
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

Try to make it a non-petroleum based grease or oil -- silicon is best. But anything will do in a pinch.

So I guess using WD40's out of the question.

I think you'll find that the high solvent content may swell the O rings.

What about a good car carnuba wax?

          Yuck! No! Wax dries out.

Use distributor silicon grease ... and never speak of this again!

Any dive shops near you, not sure which part of Ph you are in , but should be a few around, they always have silicon grease in small containers.

I will be in Cebu in 3 weeks!

I use 'Grim Racer Speed Grease'. Works great. Seals and lubes. An Aquacraft product.

                David,
Wax sticks better than grease, which, last time I used it, wiped off easily.

Now I ask you, which would be better for protecting your car? Wax or grease? Carnuba wax for me.
And, while I'm speaking of it again ------

You could buff up the rods, and cobalt plate them. (just like the chromed hydraulic rams you see on backhoes etc). They'd be smoother and less prone to corrosion, pitting, sticking etc. etc

I live just outside the capital Manila.
Will try looking around the dive shops:wink:
Hmmm. Tamiya has silicone grease for it's mini 4WD series. That might work.

Welcome Albion. You'll love Cebu. Lots of cool dive sites around.
You should try Coron in Palawan specially if you're into wreck diving, lots of them around there.

                    Too much info

A bear and a rabbit found themselves squatting next to each other whilst doing their business in the forrest. The bear looks at the rabbit and says does S*^t stick to your fur. No replies the rabbit. at which point the bear grabs the rabbit and uses it to wipe himself. Not sure what the moral of this storey is but mayb eyou want to keep quiet about what sticks and what doesnt

                      Grease The O-Rings

Never use silicone lube on silicone o-rings.Never use petroleum based lube on epdm or Santoprene o-rings.It will soften and dissolve the material.
Here is a very good weblink all about o-rings : http://www.columbiaerd.com/seal_design.html

                        P.S.

Olive oil works in a pinch, virgin or light oil.

Kidding aside I think silicone lube is readily available here. If not I could always try coconut oil:wink:
