Here is a link to the Speed controller. I like them because they are dual controllers(2 ESCs in one). Not for everyone.

Here is a view or two of the Graupner Portifino alongside an Aeromarine 50" Apache. These are the only Deep Vees that I have. My other Vee is much shallower in deadrise and freeboard. My mother agreed to hold it up for me. She didnt much approve of me posting these in the company of you blokes. She was especially wary of the one who has a Witch riding across the screen. We wont mention any names. At any rate I told her that you guys were OK.Click image for larger version

I got her in the water today. Speed is good and efficiency is good due to the fact that my temp gauge said that the motors were running at the low 100s. I tried it with my 4000 Mah packs in series. Then I tried it with two(2) 2s Lipos in series. I didnt see a speed difference. However Ill need to adjust the angle of the props to tune the way the hull rides. I tried moving the batterys around to shift weight more forward and then back. Thats not the answer. To be continued.

In order to angle the props down a degree or two, I removed the prop cover to get a look at it. Using a straight edge,on the bottom of the hull, it shows that the prop drive line is running parallel to the bottom of the hull. So, I just loosen the large nut and bolt and angle it down and tighten it up. Oh, I cant forget about loosening up the pushrod adjustments first.Click image for larger version

I got the drives trimmed down a bit, took it to the lake to try it. There was an improvement but not enough. Ill need some more down angle. I did try the two 2s lipos in series and there was a marked increase in performance. Ive decided that the speed control must be replaced. Something has happened to it over the years and its putting off too much interference thats affecting the range. Ill probably replace it with two 40 amp Mtronics waterproof jobs.

Two speed controls because I want to be able to independently control both screws. Gives me more flexibility. I use a two stick radio(Polk). Right stick forward(full ahead right side prop). Left stick forward(full ahead left side prop). Of course I have full reverse as well. Rudder is in the traditional place.

I bought two Jomar Nautical Throttles, rated at 40 amps each. I started the installation process today.

Funny. I hooked them up and...................they dont work. Well, I got this funny feeling so I went to the website describing them and......................sure enough,..... they have No BEC. So I needed to power the receiver with a separate battery pack and WALLAH! Away she went. As youll recall.....in our last episode, I spoke of changing the perfectly operating dual speed control in favor of these Jomars? And what was the silly reason I gave for doing this ungodly deed? Over the years she progressively worsened as far as range was concerned, to the point that she would only go about 50 feet or so before she would quit or generally act up. Today I range tested her and we are back up to controlling her out to the limits of my vision. Now for some open water.

Photo of my once brushed Traxxas Villain, now in brushless. It's way too fast for the hull. This is probably very close in hull shape to the portifino. My dad's portifino has been converted to single prop brushless and is too fast for the hull to handle..

Oh my, this is fun (ducking to avoid any flying objects). I enjoy watching you two sparring or duking it out. So, carry on, chip chip and all that! M vs. GP (Grand Poobah or Grammar Police your choice)
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
