U Boat type VII/C Dive Plane Configuration

I building a type VIIC Boat and it has 2 sets of dive planes bow and stern. but I want to control it by 1 servo.

I just looking at the ways I can configure the linkages. I have a choice of 4, bear in mind the maximum travel for a hydro plane is 54 degree +/- 27 degrees

and I want to have 'spectacular' diving and surfacing as seem in Das Boot film. which mean that the nose/bow has to take the lead.
    choices are:
    1) bow and stern dive planes proportionally linkage and equal (I'm guessing this will not give me a nose first dive or resurface I want)
    2) bow planes have full +/- 27 degrees, stern planes have +/- 15 degrees. (meaning the nose will always have a slight lead)
    3) both dive planes have +/- 27 degrees but the operations are reversed. e.g. to dive: bow planes +10 degrees, stern planes -10 degrees
    4) same as 2) but reversed operation

I'm favouring 4) but this is my first scratch build and I got no experience

hook the ones in the front /bow to the one servo and let the adf run the rear this will put the bow down first.this works on my gato.once you are down the adf will self level the boat.

      Hi

I'm about to build a type VII/C. Can I ask if you have made your own WTC or are you using an off the shelf item?

I bought mine from Caswell. Great product - they will stand behind what they sell.

I am thinking of building my own as I have access to a machine shop.

Could you tell me the what moters are use and there diameter?

Also the internal diameter of the tube.

          Thanks

            Worzel,

The motors we use in our product are 380 size (a bit under .875" diameter).

The Lexan cylinder we use has an inside diameter of 1.75". Outside diameter is 2".

            Rotsa Ruck.

              Thanks David,

Please could you point me in the direction on where I can buy motors with this diameter, I have had a look at the online shops in the UK but they all have larger diameter.

              Worzel.

                    Hi Guys

Thanks for your help, but David stated 380 size, on the Caswell site ( Small Mabuchi 385) has a diameter of 28mm, mounting two next to each other will 52mm and the inside diamter of he tube will be 44.45mm. I have looked at the 280 motor but this does not have any dimensions.

If the 280 motor has a Ø22.25mm then I wioll buy them.

                      Good catch, Worzel,

Yeah, I told you wrong about the motor (lesson: don't trust memory when stating specifics about equipment recommendations). You are right, sir. The appropriate motor is the 280 -- two of those side-by-side fit inside the 2" SD perfectly.

                      Sorry about the confusion.

                        Hi David

Thanks for clearing that up, I was confused with all the dimension, I can now start work on CAD for the WTC.

                          Hi David

Sorry one more thing, do you know the part number for the motors so I can get a data sheet for exact dimensions.

                          Thanks

                            Hi David

I have found on the mabuchi site a list of all the motors they do. I am struggling to find one with a 22.22mm 0.875" diameter unless I go for one with two flat sides.

I don't know where Mike sourced the motors we sell. Ask him.

                              Mike?...
