    gato single motor question

Any one thought of trying to get just one motor in the gato? Possibly some logistic issue with a gear set up but also possibly less power use by the motors which may maen a longer patrol ability.

    Your thoughts?

    Respectfully,

If you have to play it that cheap ... then, pal, you're in the wrong game.

Not so much cheap but just trying to get the most for the dollar and save space. I was thinking that the final gearing could be in the wet area and with one motor there would be a bit more space in the wtc.

              Fair enough.

Yeah, in the wet put a gear around the protruding shaft, and mesh an idler gear (same size) next to it. The shafts of these two counter-rotating gears drive the propellers.

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking my next kit might suited for that project since I finally have the gato running I don't want to tear it apart. I will just have to get a second boat and amke it happen.

                    Nice work!

Looks real sharp and simple too! I shall endevor (work hard) to make something like this. BTW, I was wondering about making the Marlin hull a two prop job since I have two 40mm counter rotating props lying arond and the Marlin is under the knife so to speak.

                    Could be fun.
