Just got your Type-7 SD motor bulkhead. Excellent packaging job, by the way. Remind me to send you some extra LPB plumbing fixtures -- the ones you asked about in another thread.
I'll get on that repair as soon as I'm done spanking people on the Net.
I keep watching the Caswell web site everyday looking for the product code on the type VII fittings kit in the type VII and type VII/41 listing. You have really made the type VII look good with all the extra components in the kit. I like the set screws on the screws. The super shaft bearings fitting. Of course the geared rudders will make life a lot easer too. My type VII turns on a dime (very tight) but I do have problems keeping the magnets hooked up. That tells me there is still to much drag on the magnets because they are plenty strong enough. Only happens when I make a starboard turn. I’m still working on that. Don’t think I’m going to try to fittings kit my current type VII. I’m just going to do a VII/41. I wanted to anyway.
I didn't know that there was thick CA. Saw that on the Cabal report on the bearings fitting. That will help.
OK. The motor was replaced and I've enclosed two sets of LPB plumbing fixtures for you. You still need to leak-check the SD before committing it to use. And stick an ADF in there! Good device installation job, shows care and some cunning.
An autopsy on the bad motor revealed de-soldered field coil wires at the commutator -- evidence of an overheated motor. As you suggested, the motor was stalled during a run and over-heated. The resulting mess near the commutator got under the press-fit brushes and they flipped out of their tension arms, killing the motor for good. Lots of carbon build-up on the commutator pick-up points, likely the reason you had to push the motor to get it running sometimes -- poor electrical contact between brushes and commutator. Lots of arking-and-sparking going on in there till it gave up the ghost.
It's on it's way, this afternoon, overnight, USPS. I socked you $50 for the job.
Got the motor bulkhead today. Post office tried to deliver sooner but we where not home. Got it in with the new snort fittings and it works great. Looks real with your fitting rather than the little chicken crap thing I made. Wish we could buy those for all the S/D's. The Gato would like the fitting that goes on the motor bulkhead too. You could do well financially on these I'm sure. I can see where lots of sub guys want them rather than fumbling with something we don't know how to do.
