    Kilo hatch

    David,
What's the orientation of the forward hatch that needs to be rescribed on the KILO? I have seen pics of the rear one which has the round end of the hatch pointed aft.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

          it's currently 8 PM here (7 AM there), 12 hours difference =)
see that you didn't put any railings on your Kilo.

            Gotcha.

No, I did not, just little detail items that would get knocked off during handeling. And the kit supplied ones are way too thick. If I did put them on I would solder them up from small gauge brass wire.

I may be too late on this, but please have a look at the photo below - Maybe they've got more than one orientation for the forward hatch but this certinainly shows "round end forward" for the forward hatch...

I'm sure you'll enjoy your KILO when you get it done- I've been having so much fun with mine that it's taken me nearly a year to get her out of "primer" and into paint!

Thanks for showing that picture. I've been looking around for photos of that hatch. Even tried zooming on pics of the Kilo taken from the top but they still don't show the hatch clearly.

                  Oh, ****! Excellent find, Kevin.

I was wrong, working from grainy long-shots. No, they would not change that design feature, I had it wrong. Now I wonder about the after hatch ...

                  Well done, Kevin.

Just fill in the lines and re-scribe.

Your Kilo build pdf has a good shot of the aft hatch.

No worries, your aft hatch is spot-on with the round end facing aft!

BTW, for anyone wondering where I've been pulling these photos from, here's the link: http://www.submarine.id.ru/thumbs/index.html. You'll find a good assortment of general photos of many types of Russian/Soviet classes of subs. Enjoy!
