    Sealing wire penetrations

I'd appreciate some help with sealing electrical wire penetrations through the SD bulkhead. I've tried running them through brass tube extensions and filling that with silicone. Wondering if there is a better way.

(Why do I want to do this? Thinking of splitting the SD into two separate modules so that I can use the full depth of the hull under the sail to fit a working periscope mechanism. It won't fit with the solid, single tube SD as it is.)

DON'T run electrical wires through stuffing glands (what you're doing now). A sure fire way of getting a leaker!

Each wire you want to run in the wet (between WTC's, as you want) originates/terminates in a solid all-thread stud glued into the face of a cap/bulkhead. Complete isolation of the wire to the interior of the WTC. No flooding path between wire insulation and conductor -- believe me, it does happen!

Servo leads too? if so, just run a flexible conduit (clear fish-tank hose) between WTC's and reeve the powere and servo wires through that.

At least three! What's the best way to seal the flexible hose as it passes through the SD bulkhead?

You start with 1/2" or so o.d. brass tube. Two of 'em, about 1 1/2" long. Set each into an access bulkhead and make watertight with plenty of CA. Get fish-tank flexible hose (vinal, I think) and get enough of that to serve as the conduit between the two WTC's. Run your cables and leads through that. Make the flexible hose to the brass tubes with nasty old hose-clamps.

I learned this from Bill Hodgkins. In the ground now, but a big help to me in the 'day'.

              Done!

This is what you can do with it:

Not to gang up on you or start a riot, but where's the pitch forks and torches?
Please start a build. We all learn from each other. That is what makes this site great.
                        Peace,

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Excellent videos Dave. I searched the Caswell site as Mr. C. says that Caswell sells them. I dont see them listed. Can you send me a link to it as well as fittings kit and sub-driver please.

Aggghhhhh!!!!! I don't mind the weight of you you guys piling on me. Its the SMELL!

Anyway its not my fault. My son, the commercial helicopter pilot, (and general idiot) has stolen the magic lead that connects my camera to the computer. He's off in far north Australia flying survey runs at dot feet. If he survives I'll get it back.
