    which silicone to use

Hello everyone. This has proabably been asked before but could not find any info about this. Which silicone would you use to install new seals in the end cap.

    Thanks Bob

Silicone grease. Try dive shops or camera shops. For a 2" diameter o ring you need about a pin head worth of grease, make sure whole ring is coated with a greasy layer.
Next time someone points out it takes 42 muscles to frown, point out it will only take 4 muscles to b1tch slap them if they tell you how mnay muscles you need to smile:pop

If you cant find a dive shop easily, you can go to an auto parts store as well. Ive been using dielectric grease from Permatex for about 3 yrs. with no problems
IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!

Thanks for the information. I was inquiring about the silicone you would use to replace a propeller shaft seal in the end cap. For instance , would i use an automotive type RTV silicone .
            Thanks Bob

Wait a minute. How come in Ronin's Sturgeon thread you said I don't need to apply grease to the bulkhead o-rings

QUOTE=He Who Shall Not Be Named;33573]

And I apply a coat of silicon to the o-ring once a year, and when I do, I wipe off the excess atop the o-ring once it's back in its groove. You silicon, or any thick grease exposed it only acts as a magnet to catch filings, dirt, and other craft that will cut or prevent a good seat between o-ring and cylinder. Andy's right, if you can put the bulkhead in without grease, you're ahead of the game.

And, Romel, I learned about the greasing and other need-to-know stuff about the hobby by actually doing it. You know: experience. Come on in ... the water's fine!

I think the bulkhead he is referring to is the ones on either side of the ballast tank. They do not move once installed, so lubing them may not be necessary. The end caps do need a little for the friction of being taken off and put back on.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
