Help a noob set his rudders

I am printing the HMS Gotland (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5751042/files)

I have finished printing the hull and after a few mistakes of gluing a couple pieces backwards, I am ready to start working on the internals.

I am doing an x-rudder setup and I need the basics. I know I need to drill a hole into the rudders and insert a piece of metal - what is that and where can I get that material, specific size or what should I buy? I assume any sort of scrap metal will do, but I don't have anything like that on hand.

Once I have those in, what are they attaching to exactly inside? My research says I need a control horn? Are these what I am looking for? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006MZKXO...lig_dp_it&th=1

I understand from there I need push rods that attach to the servos and think I understand from there so far.

    Thank you for any help!

Linkage is the same as it would be on a cruciform arrangement, just oriented 45-degrees from 'normal'.
