Anyone know what the object is below deck behind tower of the K-class?
At first it looked like a life boat hanging on hull , but after magnifying, I could see there's a hole there with something mounted in the hole ???
An Interesting Submarine! with it's 3 deck guns :)

Trainable torpedo tubes (much like the mounts seen on early Destroyers) used on the surface. And mounted athwart-ship in the hull are lateral pointing torpedo tubes as well.

      David,
      Who is John Galt?

        Thanks for the Info.
It does look more like a small Destroyer than a Sub. ;)
I guess that's why I like the K-class so much, I'm still a surface Man at heart. I just like Big Weapons sticking up everywhere! :)

I've had a close look at the plans for the K Class and compared it with the M1. I think the M1 will scale up almost perfectly to a K boat. Now we have the molds for the M1, we could perhaps just change the superstructure and get two boats for the price of one?

K Class shows 339 feet long, M1 just 309 feet. The rudder and planes look exactly the same on the drawings.

Wow! The M1 with the Peto plane, or the 12" gun or the minelayer, and the K class blowing steam out of the funnels! Gotta look pretty neat on the pond! It's just a pity they were such dismal failures in real life!

              Thanks for the Picture enlargement.
Do you know who built that K-class model?
They did a good job on the details, with what appears to be brass parts.

Yes, they were designed as 'Multi-role' vessels (both surface and submerged), so they did not do very well in either of those roles. Due to the technology available at the time.
Of course torpedoes were not very reliable during those years also, which was not a fault of the submarines design.

This is a real interesting boat. Which makes it more appealing than the M class in my opinion.

They were nicknamed 'The Suicide Club' by Royal Navy submariners. Not without just cause, they never took out a single enemy ship, but sent a lot of our own lads to davy jones locker.

I would certainly consider building one, if available, and I didn't already have 'My plate Full'. :)

The model pictured is the one based at Gosport I believe, if not it's an identical twin.

The M-class were based on K-class hulls after the remaining boats were cancelled owing to the disastrous legacy of those boats.

Unfortunately, they fared little better with M1 and M2 taking their crews with all hands. Only M3 survived, eventually being turned into an experimetal mine-layer, with some success, as the equipment developed on that boat was used on subsequent mine-laying submarines.

Here a couple of pictures of the K-class and M-class models at Gosport. not my best photographs, but the lighting in there is awful, and they're behind glass which doesn't help.

                            Great models!
I just realized that the K-class had 2 tall mast on it. They could have installed real sails if they needed to. :D
Gotta love that brass, but I'm wondering why they were made a Tan color. tho?
Surely the Originals were not that color?

Magnificent boats, and good shots. Thanks for sharing, Andy.

I love the R. Any more shots on that ASW sub?
