Using an FrSky X18 + TD-S6R for Submarine Control

This is the process I followed to move the stern planes to the slider and the bow planes to the right stick. I’ve also included a link to a my stabilized model file you can upload directly to your radio… though the real question is: is it truly a model, or just a bootleg copy of Midnight Movie Massacre (1988)?

Step 1. Understand How the S6R Stabilization Works
    • The S6R expects one stabilized elevator channel (normally CH2) from the transmitter.
    • Stabilization is applied on the channel level (not on the stick), so whatever source drives CH2 will get stabilization applied.
    • Therefore, we just need to map CH2 → Slider (S1) instead of J2 (stick).

Step 2. Reassign Elevator to Slider
    1. On the X18, go to Model → Mixer.
    2. Find CH2 (Elevator).
    3. Delete the default elevator mix line (linked to J2).
    4. Add a new line on CH2:
      • Source → move the right slider (S1).
      • Save.
      • Now CH2 is driven only by the slider.
    5. Run the Stabilization Wizard again if needed — it will bind stabilization to whatever is on CH2 (now S1).

✅ At this point, the stern planes (CH2) are stabilized and follow the slider.
Step 3. Set Up Bow Planes on Stick
    1. Pick a free channel for bow planes (say CH6).
    2. In Mixer, add a new line:
      • Channel: CH6.
      • Source = Elevator Stick (J2).
      • Weight = 100%.
      • Save.
    3. Plug your bow plane servo into CH6 on the S6R.

✅ The bow planes now follow the stick directly, with no stabilization applied.
Step 4. Verify on the Bench
    • Move the slider (S1) → stern planes move (and wiggle with stabilization).
    • Move the right stick (J2) → bow planes move only.
    • Stabilization should only act on stern planes (CH2).
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

Until Jitter Bug starts making RC radios, I feel it's my duty to help out where I can!

What you're passing on to Jake is now being translated to Torpedo-speak, at which point he'll prepare carefully worded flash-cards for me to use as I work to make my r/c system much smart. Thanks for the work you're putting into this, Steve.
