During RIMPAC 2006, I was TAD to the Pearl Harbor Security Force, driving a harbor patrol boat. The HMAS Rankin and the USS Abraham Lincoln were both in port at the time. A group of Japanese sailors asked for directions to the big American carrier, the "Rankin"—and were completely puzzled when they found themselves standing beside a small Australian submarine instead. -
Steve,
If you're talking about the first 2 pictures in this thread, you're looking through the port side diesel exhaust plum! If the bigger pictures, there's only water splash on the side going aft. A correctly tuned submarine diesel will emit white exhaust which shows that engine is running at peak efficiency. There is no fancy paint!
Thanks, your right. The images are so tiny. Maybe the photos were taken around Perth? HMAS Sterling?

Two guys sport fishing on a center console boat shot a video as the sub cruised past them and posted it on Instagram...it was hard to tell by their accents but it certainly could have been Australian. I grabbed these two screenshots-BG
If the video comes cruising by again I'll try to post it to the forum.Leave a comment:

This Collins class sub, when & where was photo taken? Western Australia? The color scheme contrast on the aft casing is interesting. Its like an old USN Measure camo from WW2 trying to confuse the size (or range of sub from observer) by making a false silhouette.Leave a comment:
