Ha, been trying to remember the name of this movie recently. I remember walking along A1A from Patrick Air Force Base housing to see this at the local theater with my mom. As for the movie i remember they were going around the world in a submarine and thats about it except for being fascinated by a magnetic chess set hanging off the wall ( i was 7). Looking on Youtube see the teaser for it ,was it a stinker or relevant for the time?

From the description and the reviews I've seen, it sounds like the kind of movie that had the same effect on you as Flight of the Navigator had on us. It made a huge impression on people in my country when it was first shown.

Even so, Star Trek remains my favorite.

I think it was an Ivan Tors Production, likely shot at the ZIV studies (many of the contract actors there were in the movie) The actual vehicle (I don't know if they ever built a miniature of it) was an actual dry type 'mini-submarine' dressed out to be a long-legged 'research' submarine -- shots of it framed to appear much larger than it actually was. That vehicle later become a rusting, forgotten road-side attraction somewhere (same fate as the 'Ralston Rocket' attractions back in the day).

I’ve seem to remember watching that movie as a kid on TV.
Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.
