Difference Between Static and Dynamic Dive With Respect To Gato SubDriver
Difference Between Static and Dynamic Dive With Respect To Gato SubDriver
Please pardon my lack of knowledge in this area but could someone please define the difference between static and dynamic dive. Also, how is the Gato SubDriver actually configured, static or dynamic.
Thanks,

Static dive means that the boat dives from a stationary position-it uses no forward or for that matter rearward movement to submerge. That is you actively take on ballast and the boat can dive from where it sits. Boats that can actively adjust onboard ballast to transition the boat from surfaced to submerged without the need for movement of the sub are typically known as static divers.
Dynamic dive means that the boat dives using dynamic force (movement). The Dynamic force is the combination of boat momentum acting with the dive planes. A boat that can dive purely under dynamic forces and has no means of adjusting onboard ballast is known as a dynamic diver.
What I do, and a lot in the hobby do with static divers, is ballast the boat so it still needs a little dynamic force to submerge after the ballast tank is full. This way the boat won't go negative on the tank alone.
Hope this helps

One simple clarification, John's answer is correct as far as it goes, but alot of the "walmart style" or "wally-world" (nikko, etc) rtr submarines, and even the FXModels Alvin, built as per plans, are dynamic divers, but they can dive without moving. they use a second set of motors and props oriented vertically to force the submarine below the surface. when the power is cut to those "diving motors" (by design or failure) the sub will bob back to the surface. they are considered dynamic because they still use movement of water (a dynamic force) rather than a ballast tank to dive.
to answer the second half of your question, the Gato subdriver is a static device.
Static divers typically are defined by an internal ballast adjustment - not simply thrusters which are themselves are dynamic device providing vertical dynamic force externally on the sub.
We could split hairs here or we could give the new guy some basics.
So ir3 (would be great to know your real name), to keep it simple think of static diving as diving with a ballast tank, and dynamic diving as diving without a ballast tank being used.

Thanks for the explanations of the differences between Static and Dynamic diving boats. I will set the boat as John explained to require a little forward motion to start the dive. It seems like something to experiment with as one gains experience.
