I realise there were problems with the kit concerning detail and size when I got it. After reading several reviews with negative comments, I put it in the shed with the combat models "kits"and some old antique plastic model kits, that I saved. I figgured I could make the I-52, the Pearl Harbor boat that launched H-19 someday. My wife has been after me to clean the shed out, so I had to bring all the good stuff inside. Hurricane season. That shed may not make it thru summer she predicts. Im now having to look at the monster's box towering over all the crap stacked up. Im almost to the point of ripping off the plastic, just to see how bad they say it really is. If it is still a contriversal kit after 4 or 5 years, it may just eventualy become a collector. Or it might be like waiting for the price of my lead collection to jump up a little more. Did Caswell ever offer a fittings kit? I know Dave was working on one several years ago on another network in a paralell dimention or whatever ya call a place I wont name. A lot younger looking back in those days BTW
What ever happened to the I 53 projects ?

Holy crap David…..and you wonder what's wrong with us?
Have you received a hand grinder for every birthday?
or maybe you have a hand grinder fetish?
or you do not use a grinder twice?
Please don’ t tell me you can multitask and simultaneously use all of them, when I count them I’m getting a mental picture that is worse than all of the above together LOL.

BartIf you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.Comment

If David worked at the speed the rest of us do he would be standing in line at the local soup kitchen! He loves his chosen profession and works in the only speed that he must do to pay the bills. that is "full speed ahead and damm the torpedo's"Comment

Judge not, a man by his pliers..How many hammers he has, is much more important. I was looking at the Gato as well. I should have gotten one of those instead. I just sent 3 Dremmel 3000s for overhaul and now, only have 3 operating. I gave away the cordless one I had for back up, because of the constant charging issue. If you only have one, its probbably not been broken yet, so it hasent had to be replaced, while the broken one is at O&R. I couldnt go a day without using one, in my business or hobby or house. Worse than having the coffee machine go south without a backup. So, about that I 53 you started. Still have the drawings for the correct bow tower ect? Templates, ect. I think I will try to make the I 52, which is a C-3 cargo sub, like the 53, but in the drawings I have of both boats the 52's bow looks more stubby, with a downward sloped foredeck. like the Lindburg kit. Not sure where I had seen another 53 kit's modified bow, but the original idea must have come from some particular drawings these are all I could findLast edited by Von Hilde; 06-18-2015, 06:57 AM.Comment

Check out "Operation Rising Sun" They want to raise the I-52. That boat has quite a history. Besides being involed in the Pearl Harbor attack. Sidney Harbor attack, and a colorful war carrear, she was sunk, late in the war on the way to Germany with a load of cargo. Among the manifest items, morphene, and gold bullion. Alledgedly a haunted wreck, due to immages of crewmen on watch on the bridge deck apearing in some photographs of the memorial on the bottom. "ORS" has marked the wreck sites of most of the IJN ships that were sunk during the war, and it's quite impressive. All the more reason to want to build it, for me. Be unique, even if I have to scratch build half of it. A single 1/72 ko hyoteki on the back that has its own mini subdriver, would be awsome. Not that I would go that far.Comment

Last winter I decided to go ahead with building the I-53, and converting it to the I-58 it will be my impression of that boat, yes the kit is a bit of a mess, so if you would like to see what I have done so far, you could go to the Subcommittee website look on the builders thread and you will find it.
