tech question re this model.
Given the relatively small forward dive planes, how effective are these for depth changes David?
My good lady has just bought me the Albacore Forerunner of the Future text. Whilst I'm saving this for some vacation reading, it would seem from other texts that the phase 2 configuration that is depicted with bow planes would have only been for a very short time, as I understand the bow planes were removed during this phase, never to be replaced.

Also, though all my reading indicates that the phase-2 boat had the dorsal rudder disabled, it was still there. So, for fun, I've made mine active ... and boy, does that change how this boat behaves during the high-speed submerged turns -- it remains ram-rod vertical as it turns. But, a sharp turn effectively puts the brakes to the boat. I found that I had to slam full-ahead in a sharp turn or the boat would drop speed in seconds. Now I appreciate why the Engineer's were worried about tearing the sail off if they worked the dorsal rudder outside of the speed envelop.

Jhon, David and Mark,
The Albacore seems like a great boat to experiment with as the builder could actually go through all the stages as the real boat did and find out all the pro's and con's of each change as was done in real life!!

And I'm hoping that Mike and David will find a GRP kit will sell well too.
Albacore in my view was pretty much the ultimate prototype, prototype. So many experiments compressed over a relatively short time frame. The boat was a real workhorse, and all modern subs, regardless of nationality, have technological design origins in the tests that this boat went through.
There are so many ways this boat could / can be modeled.

Maybe David and Mike will consider making bits available to make a stage 1. You know, where the prop was in front of the rudder and its huge casting. And the sail still had windows in it.Last edited by greenman407; 04-12-2014, 07:42 PM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment
