    Scale 1/16 Remote Controlled Tanks

Hello fellow modellers. I saw that Caswell has remote controlled tanks for sale. I started in the hobby doing R/C tanks so I thought that I would show anyone interested just what can be done with these little beauties. Just like our ships and submarines, a bit of detailing goes a long way. I have sold a lot of my tanks on request and have just a few left.
Here are some pictures of a German Panther early model WWII and a US Bulldog in the Vietnam era. Hope you like them. I just finished the Panther today but might add a wee bit more camouflage yet. I don't know I will think about it.

As it is not as popular as other R/C modelling you have to search far and wide for your bits and pieces, but I am sure you agree to get the final result.

      Very nice indeed!

I have a Sherman 1/16 that's just about complete. Minor accessories and more weathering.
I like the figures, think I'm going to search some out for the Sherman.

I just finished a 1/16 M4A3 Sherman yesterday afternoon... I am considering one of the German WWII tanks now, but I will run this one a while first...

However now with the last of the parts turning up in the post I should be able to start my second Gato for a run at the Canberra sub regatta.
        Cheers,
        Alec.

Thanks for comments. It's good to see that we can all enjoy a variety of modelling even working in between major projects

Another two tanks in my collection that I look after and spent a few hours getting them to the stages that you see. Hope you like these.
First is a USA Bulldog tank that I call Blue Suede shoes. I have also written a book about this tank called Blur Suede Shoes and it is about the tank and it's crew during the it's tour in Vietnam. Short amusing stories. If you would like a great read just check Amazon books out and Blue Suede Shoes by Charles Armstrong and you will find it there.

OK that's some of Blue Suede Shoes.
Next a German Panther type G returning from a Harsh winter serving in the Eastern front WWII. It's name is Ariane and a pure fighting machine having survived for a while.

Okay and an obituary for my friend Warwick owner if Awesome hobbies and introduced me to the world of detailing model tanks.
Where do I buy my bits and pieces now. Will miss you matey. Taken by Heart Attack in his prime. He taught me the detailing technics you see here, and sold perfecto tanks to his customers.
            Cheers Mcgowan1.

Sorry to hear about the passing away of your friend. Would you be a Warwick to us and document your techniques here? Beautiful work.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Nice work. Having assembled a Panzer for a neighbor a couple years back I can appreciate all the work that goes into a R/C tank. They are fun to run also. Your paint jobs are much better than mine. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you fellow sub mariners and modellers for your positive comments. Yes re technique no problems. Firstly research the model you are going to model. Also look at where it was and check out the tank's colour schemes that were used during the period you choose. Buy the model in the basic colour if possible not cammouflaged as you will be doing the work to the tank.
On the Bulldog I used the airbrush in various colour mixtures and modelling clay in some parts. I also used a small soldering iron to get dent effects around the top of the track area.
OK more to follow, low on battery now.

It's always sad to here of someone's passing like that.

I had a quick look for sandbags on the net but struggled to get what I wanted so I made my own from an old bed sheet and Sandys sewing machine. They didn't turn out exactly as planned... The top .50 cal and tank commander are removable just incase I decide to kit it with an it battle sensor.

Great job there matey, now to really finish her off if you didn't want a pristine model picture in your mind theTank in battle and some cammo techniques or a muddy area that the tank has been through. Plaster of Paris gives great muddy details along the top of the wheel area and where the tracks move into under the main body. Rusty brown light brown mixes into the mixture is great. Break small pieces off and place it along like the tracks throwing up mud as the tank moves along.Just small things like that, a cammo net cut to shape from fly screen, green or black and front of tank covered in the same stuff model railroaders use for scenery. Paint the figs as close as you can to what you are depicting. I still use my tanks outside and I have built an area for firing practice using an old Russian tank hull. Great stuff.Cheers

Hey Mike, Why Not an AFV Section?

Nice work! I've got more than few of those myself gathering dust that started from when my sons were living with me: 2 T/34-85s (1 a Tamiya conversion, other WSN stock), M26 Pershing, M4 Sherman kit w/Nick Aguilar excellent aftermarket resin kit & a converted Heng Long PzKw III.

Mike, considering you carry the Hooben T-55, you should create a separate section for the tread heads among us here since it may well open some additional interest. You already have a section dedicated to targets & other marine related sites have done the same since many hobbyists share the same interests when it comes to military subjects. Sure beats quadcopters!

That's a great idea to consider Mike. For those of us who enjoy Military tanks etc it would be a great place to swap ideas , ask questions like where did you purchase that from, as some tank upgrades are very hard to find and just general posting of photo's.

Thanks. The commander came with the kit. The only mod was adding the wire from his mic which is mag wire wound around some 1/16 rod a trick I have done before on the 1/32 J2, chariot and 1/24 flying sub along with others.
                              Cheers,
