Good luck Leelan, the Revell type IX is suppose to be released today, it comes with extra tower and assortment of guns, so you better get two kits so you can build a couple versions. Oh, if you do get two, I would gladly pay you for the spares you dont use from the kits. I intend on building several varrients of the IXC and D, 1 and 2 term . The Revell kits most likley have a standard deck layout as to what type of hatches go where, I would say they used the U 505 as a guide so, If one was to want to build a particular boat with the different hatch covers the availability of PE is limited at this point. Actually only one I have ever seen is made in the Check republic, and was built for a CMK 1/72 type IX hull. The dimentions may not be a perfect fit fit to the Revell boat. I managed to get a knock off of the hull and tower mold made by Combat Models for his IX D 2. It was somewhat out of scale, too short for the D2, and too long for a C so I had to add a section in the hull and scratch built the rest of the boat, deck, tower, hand drew the limber holes and cut them with the dremmel and engraving tools, ect. It took too long, but it was fun. I think I would rather get a couple revell kits for static builds of the IXs. That way I can have a couple famous ones on the shelf. A model of the U 234 with the wasp waist fordeck would be a challange. Painted like it was when surrendered.Click image for larger version
