    Barbel class

Americas last class of diesel electrics. Hull shape profited from the research done on Albacore. Its of interest to note that the three barbels(Barbel, blueback and bonefish) started out life with bow planes but were soon moved to the sail.

Wonder why the USN doesnt explore the idea of reintroducing diesel-electric subs back in their inventory when all potential advesaries have them. Some have even shown they can get through anti-submarine defenses.

You could easily integrate systems from nuke boats into them.

For a brief time I was a member of the NSL, Navy Submarine League. After attending a few meetings it became obvious that this collection of former submarine officers, many of them of flag rank, were -- and continue to be -- a strong, influential lobbying force. The agenda of these 'professional submarine drivers' is to call for the design, funding, building and employment of ever more powerful and capable submarines. To their way of thinking, going diesel is a giant step backwards.

These are the guys who gave us the great white elephant, the SEAWOLF class.

As one of them put it: "Why drive a bug when you can instead drive a Corvette?"

because I don't want my enemies to hear me coming while I'm still a way off.

Also your current foes are pirates bobbing around in small skiffs.

Heres what we need for those Pirates! Do you remember the Giant Freighter in the James Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved Me". It was made to swallow and hold submarines. We could scoop up all the pirates and then drop them off at the South Pole.

              Wonderful idea.

I wonder how big the movie model was?
Imagine having a 1/96-1/72 scale Liparus and launch subs out the bow during the annual regatta.

Not sure if anyone noticed - but the pennant of the US sub captured is that of the Thresher.
