Thanks redboat. Heres what I got on it. And an old picture of the Trieste

I've been following this for a while. Graham Hawkes was ready to dive with the Deepflight challenger about three years ago, but Steve Fossets untimely demise delayed the launch, too bad, as this team have now beaten them to the punch. Ultimately I think Hawkes design is far more 21st century tech than this one, but it's interesting to see multiple teams competing with one another.
Still trying to figure out how this boat pootles around, all the thrusters appear to be orientated vertical, or is it purely a sinker?Last edited by Subculture; 03-26-2012, 12:35 PM.Comment

Subculture, in the second picture that I posted I see what look like silver electric motors with a black propellor guard at one end. I can see three of them together. Maybe they pivot outward.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Take one sci-fi director and stick him inside a sci-fi looking sub.
Doesn't it remind you of Boba Fetts spaceship which lands lying down but flies vertically.Make it simple, make strong, make it work!Comment

Ah ... but there are no sand-worms in Cameron's future, me thinks. Too bad.

I think Dune is an incredibly difficult book to translate to the silver screen, as there are so many layers to the story which are difficult to convey on celluloid. To do it justice you would need a film several hours long- and I can't see a fidgety audience sitting through that unless they're die-hard Herbert fans.Comment

The movie was just fine. Did you see that awful made-for-TV Dune?! Yuck!
When will some Producer get the balls to take on the Clarke epics, like Deep Range, City and the Stars, Childhoods End, etc.
And would not The Mote In God's Eye be a fun movie!
Enough with the teen ninja-vampire-werewolf-warrior bull-****!

I think a lot of ideas of Clarkes have been heavily borrowed in oher sci-fi films. Logans Run borrowed heavily from City and the Stars I think.
AFAIK only two of Clarke's books made it to the silver screen 2001 and 2010. Rendezvous with Rama has reportedley been in development for decades.Comment

And each and everyone of his shorts from Tails From The White Heart collection should be worked up as a screen play. And how about turning the CGI guys loose on Kazin's and Overlords? Enough of this transformer crap.
God I pine for the good old days of Hammer studios and George Pal.
... and where's that remake of When Worlds Collide?
Drop the other shoe and do the two follow-up books in movie form of Jones', The Forbin Project (and keep the musical score of the origional!).
And please, God, do them without Will Smith!
