Apologies to everyone. This was a bit of a perfect storm. The site went down as I was traveling for work, leaving me without my local resources to diagnose and repair the issue.
What happened was that the site's memory cache was filled up. Typically we are good, but we've seen a big hit of visits from robots and spiders, and those things fill up the memory cache very quickly. When the memory was filled, 1&1, our hosting provider, shut down the site until it could be rectified.
Richard, my IT guy from my "real" job, helps me maintain the site and due to this event, I'm going to invest in a larger storage site. Yes, more expensive. More money, but I guess it's needed. He also wrote a script that I can run remotely that automatically purges the cache, so if this happens again, I can potentially rectify it myself from almost anywhere.

One suggestion might be, like several ham radio sites I belong to, if you’re a member, but haven’t posted anything in a year, your username information is deleted. Another might be that as members, we do so for a few bucks a year. Not only would that offset some of the cost of you, it would also keep the spambots, and multiple dupe do nothing members from having God knows how many user names, taking up space. Just a thought.Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.Comment

Thanks Bob. If you want a contribution, we can pass around the hat.
