Finished my blast from the past, the Airfix Starcruiser 1 that I first built as a kid. A legendary Garry Anderson design, slightly altered by me and with an altered paint job, that makes it more a troop drop ship rather than a multi purpose one. 40 years later I still like it…

A little progress on my 50 years old Airfix Starcruiser 1 kit, i.e. the Interceptor module. As mentioned earlier, I modified the exhaust, included a proper cockpit with PE seat belts, gave it wing tips, and added a hint of thrust vectoring actuators. The base color is white, black cockpit, gray seat with green headrest. I added gray accents, some signs and black stripes using left over decals. Weathering was done using gray filters, washes and dry brushing. Looks good for such an old kit….

I started working on the Airfix Starcruiser 1. I Kicked of with the small detachable fighter, the interceptor. As this is nice but pretty basic, I spiced it up with a proper cockpit, nicer exhaust nozzles, small wings to enhance the nasty look, and some hydraulics for thrust vectoring.

Started working on spicing up the original, quite simple snap-together kit. On the rear of the Starcruiser sits a tiny fighter craft, the Interceptor. The cockpit is ultra rudimentary, showing no controls, no instruments, just a seat and the canopy. I plan to detail this section with a proper instrument panel, side panels with throttle and side stick, a bit like in the F-16. Here's the first shot.

As I love technology, for me space and deep sea is pretty much the same. The challenge to cleverly engineer a few cubic meters of space where people can live and work, separated from instant death by a few centimeters of wall. Same spirit for subs and spacecraft.

The Starcruiser 1 is a childhood memory and still a cool looking kit that has the potential to be spiced up quite substantially. The kits are rare and usually super expensive. So I'm still very, very happy, that I got it for a decent price.

And yes, Sci Fi and even reals space, I love it. I studied physics to become an astronaut, but got turned down when I applied in 2008 (to fat to fly me thinks). So it's down to kits: I have a 1/24 Revell Gemini capsule (still looking for the PE detail set by LVM) and a 1/16 Mercury capsule in the backlog. And there is a Klingon K't'inga cruiser, the U.S.S. Grissom (Oberth Class), a B-Wimg, and a Y-Wing. And of course the must have kit when Sci Fi goes submarine: The Prometheus form "The Fantastic Voyage".

Finished on display I have the classic Battlestar Galactica and a Viper MK1 (BSG had the best designs ever), a Millenium Falcon together with an X-Wing, and the Discovery from 2001.

I like your robot. Huge thing that would eat to much space in my place, but Rogue One, so far, is the best Star Wars movie after episode 4,5, and 6.

I‘m super happy. I‘ve been a Sci Fi fan as long as I can think, and I built Sci Fi models almost equally long. And this kit is a trip back into the times of Captain Future, Star Trek and Space 1999. Designed by Sci Fi legend Garry Anderson, the Starcruiser 1 has to be among the first kits I built, and after a long hunt, a Swedish gentleman sold me this original from 1978. This will be a special build. Did. I mention, that I‘m super happy?

I to am a Science Fiction fan. The Starcruise 1 looks like it will be a perfect kit for you to build, especialy with your meticulous skills as a builder.

Personally i think its good for the mind to break away from sub building (not to long) and be creative in other areas. This might be a good build blog for people to show off other creative projects.
