New info on surcouf

In this picture note what looks like three bow planes, one large and two small.

But in this picture I only see two.

Notice the size of the opening for the bow planes in the second picture- this is the correct size. In the first its tiny- didst look big enough to store the planes. BTW the Surcouf fore planes rotated into a stored position. Trying to get this working in a model, yet allowing the planes to operate is driving me nuts!

No it rotates as one unit in a circular fashion. One plane rotates in towards the stern and the other toward the bow. The extreme ends of the planes are still sticking out of the sub in the stored position.

I'll do that once I get enough done, I have taken a bit a break during the summer to learn how to fly RC aircraft.

That's even easier to implement then. You can use servos and a double ended crank. Or you could fit a servo on either side each in it's own little miniature cylinder, and hook then up to a splitter lead.

Probably easier to show than describe.

OK, That's your thesis, now please show us where/what the misinformation is. Tell us what the right answer is according to your source and try to give us a reference. The only thing I've seen that looks wrong is a challenge over what may or may not be a CGI image of Surcouf. (IMHO, I think it's CGI. Bow shape is way off, beam is too wide, too many dive plane like surfaces forward, etc.) There's no discussion of the sinking on the three pages posted so far, nor and mention of its crew complement, nor any discussion of its affiliation with the Free (or Vichy) French. [Update. My bad. The second post in this thread does tell a story of the ship. There are elements that are factual. (e.g. Surcouf was at Plymouth and there were deaths when the British boarded Surcouf) But there are some elements that are at variance with the facts. (e.g. The ship never seems to have had a British crew and never seems to have operated as a unit of the British Fleet.) - Ed.]

If you'd like to engage in the discussion and help, please do so by being more scholarly in your contributions. No doubt you've got good reason to think there's misinformation about Surcouf. Please point out what's wrong where it is and correct the bad information with the facts. But you don't just have to take target practice with others, you can also add substance by writing about the submarine and its unusual and interesting story. [Note: Navarchtech sent some info via PM, which I've encouraged him to post. The point about avoiding unsubstantiated claims of "not so" still stands, though. It's fine to throw the BS flag here, folks, but you need to show why. We'll all be better off for this way of doing business. - Ed.]

You dont have to make it 87" long, you can make it a smaller scale.
