that detailed picture of the UZO head is just what I need. I wonder if you guys have been compairing the different hatch arrangements on all the type IXs. There is quite a varrient. Be something to think about if one was to want to modify the Revell 505, from out of the box to another boat.

those straw hats were given out to the U69 crew for the propaganda foto op and the big party following that patrol. Note: they even had an extra one for the UZO head. Horrido means "Tally Ho!" the name of the boat was "The Laughing Cow"{La Vache qui rit} (The cow that laughs) named after a brand of French cheese. U 69 was the first type VIIC built. quite successful thruout the war, but as most, didnt quite make the whole show and went down with all hands. As they say in the NASCAR interviews with the DNF drivers. "The old number 69 was runnin real good till we hit the wall in turn #3" The picture of the petty officer leaning on the tower of U 79, I notice what seems to be a speeker or perhaps a sound device bolted just above the magnetic compass housing. Which by the way shows the detail of the "compressed air access indicator" the box with the cross on the hatch. I always thought they were imbossed, but it appears that one is plate steel tack welded on. Man, I love findin out new stuff every day.Last edited by Von Hilde; 08-14-2013, 06:37 AM.Comment

Also note the new water deflector at the rim of the bridge. Here is one that has handrails on the bridge.

Almost all the boats had recieved the wind and spray deflector mod by 43. The U 61 was a unique IIC. The 2 step fairing tower with the extra tall hand rails and no magnetic compass housing forward on it. It has the new base mount for their 2 cm C 30 forward as well.Comment

U 119 was a type X minelayer. The pictures of the dammaged bow came from the first patrol when Kapt Lt Alois Zech was aboard. He was an Instructor at Mine Warfare development oct 37 to may 40. In feb 42 he took over final construction and then capt of 119. First patrol from Kiel to Bordeaux (55days) mine laying. Managed to wreck the bow on return to France. You can see in one of the pictures, he is standing at attention on the winch and saluting two Hi ranking officers in long coats. Right after the repremand and they told him to get the hell off the boat. He was booted to a shore position as Advisor of minelaying at the 12th flotilla. The second kapt of the boat, Horst-Tessen von Kaneke, is in the picture of the tower emblem and real good close up of the jump wire insulator blocks. He went on one patrol to Nova Scotia and layed mines, from 25 April 43 to 24 June 43. They were credited with one ship sunk and one damaged totaling 10,113 tons by mines. 119 went down with all hands on the return trip home off the N coast of Portugal in the Bay of Biscay, 24June. Depth charged and then rammed by a RN Sloop HMS Starling (not a sail boat)Last edited by Von Hilde; 08-18-2013, 07:01 AM.Comment
