What is the Proper way to make a Strong Repair of a hole in a Plastic object

  • What is the Proper way to make a Strong Repair of a hole in a Plastic object

    Hello
    I would like to know what is the Best and Strongest method to repair a fairly large gap in a wall of a plastic printed torpedo body. It will never be under internal gas pressure. I have several tail pieces that during 3D printed developed a crack/gash along it`s base section.
    I know HWSNBN uses a mix of CA and baking soda as a thick patch. Would that work and I could then sand the outer shell smooth and go from there. Also I would use some tape internally to support the filler OR is there something else that can be applied to fill this and limiting weight is also important.
    Here is a picture of what I basically have x Several.

    Bondo. After filing and sanding overcoat with thin formula CA to strengthen the bond.

      Question, would thick CA also work in your lesson? I ran out of thin CA.

          So you can`t use Kicker on it with thick CA?
          Just the mix of Baking Soda and thin CA with No kicker at all?

            Most of the time I use either one or the other catalysis. On occasion, when using too thick CA, I'll do both.

              ah O.K Thank You. For now I will get some Home depot thin CA
              Can`t wait for 2020 Toledo Weak Signals to load up on thin CA, got lots of the thick stuff.

                Have a line on a used vacuum pump at a Great price. Any tips on what to ask about it, I know Nothing about it for now. As for a pressure pot No luck so far locally. Keeping my eyes open.

                  Minimum flow, 3 CFM; minimum vacuum, 28" of Mercury.

                      George,
                      while learning to patch the holes is great, the bigger question is what is wrong with your 3D printer that it is doing that? Do you know what happened during the print job? Did the filament get tangled or the print head make a lot of noise?
                      If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

                        Hi, No it is not my printer BUT a printer from our local area library. I think it might have something to do with the file as well as inexperienced librarians/operators. Price is beyond belief so I guess I put up with some "crap" excuse the language.
                        I got the file redone and have a new print being done as I type this. Will be back here tonight and let you know how the new print turned out.
                        Makes me want a 3D printer, dam curious thing.

                          Well I just got back the newest version from the same 3D printer source, came out solid, no cracks, splits. Work continues.
