    Ferric Chloride Alternative

I'll need to etch the white metal fittings on my Kilo and Seawolf models for better paint adhesion but I don't know if I can get Ferric chloride locally.
What would be a readily available alternative?
Since I know it's an acid can I use household "Muriatic" or hydrochloric acid?
    How about drain cleaners?

Overnight soak in vinegar will do it.

    David,
    Who is John Galt?

      David,
Of course, if you want to pickle something you got to use good old vinegar.
