The construction of the model goes well. I would like to realize a totally opening model. The starboard part of the hull should have a hinge screwed on the keel and will keep close with magnets. Therfore I have to cut the rear part of the hull to separate starboard from port, avoiding the propeller shaft, the bridge etc. How may I cut the clear "plastic" ? With wich tool ? I am quite anxious to do that.

It's vital here to keep the kerf (material lost to the sawing and truing process) as narrow as possible.

Use a very thin rotary saw or cut-off wheel -- diamond preferred.

Secure the work like this, mark off the cut line, set the blade height off the table; and make many, many light passes with the saw/cut-off wheel till you cut through the plastic.

I do it all the time with great success.

No.... its actually there. If you look under that truck you can see a tiny exhaust pite and...... not sure where this is going. Better stop now. It's Barts' fault.

"pipe" would have been better; not entirely sure what a "pite" is. Might be a combination of exhaust pipe and spite. Dunno. But its still Bart's fault!

One thing to note, Dave used a saw blade, not a cutoff blade when he was cutting the hull. Standard fiberglass cutoff blades don't so much remove material as they melt the plastic with friction. You end up with a lot of kerf around the cut that can be difficult to remove, not mention the fact that cutting tends to spray hot, melted plastic everywhere (eye protection, people!).

The saw wheel removes bigger bites with less friction, resulting in a cleaner cut.

Just a thought Gents. Dremel makes a very thin diamond wheel that I used to cut my Bronco type 23 as well as the Gato. Very good results. Just sayin
