Last weekend's fun-run at the Jewish Community Center outdoor pool

This is our last fun-run at the Virginia Beach JCC outdoor pool for the year. All had a great time and look forward to another years use of this excellent model boating venue.

I'm relieved you did not show the footage of you on the waterslide.

Great to see a bunch of out of the box thinking guy’s, I enjoyed it.

I did, but the new owner of this site say's he wants no 'clown porn', so down it came. (now, try to scrub THAT imagery out of your brain!).

Yeah, Dennis Allen is scary good at this stuff! That AmTrack and big JACK are complete scratch-builds. He's got a big BURK with practical controllable pitch propellers. A complete nut-job in the shop.

What is wrong with you......I'm still taking pills to suppress the image of you with lipstick.

Question about the mini airpump controller, does it cope with 6V / 0.3 amp? An has it an integrated electrical noise suppressor?

        Thks & grtz,
        Bart

          Bart,

First things first: last weekend -- while working to get the shop up to speed -- I found a package addressed to you. I'll get it out tomorrow. Got lost in the flood ... literally!

Yes, Kevin's little MPC has spark suppression, is rated for 6-volts, and will easily pull 1-Ampere of current if need be. A beautiful little piece of design and manufacture.

In your JCC video above there is a, believe a Mr. Allen, he had a U.S. Marine landing craft, sorry I don`t know the exact name of it. Could you tell me what scale that craft was? I am interested in those.
              Thank You.

Just got an e-mail off to Dennis with your request of more information. Hope he can find his way over to this forum so he can address your questions directly.

Some shots of his work on display at a recent fun-run:

Some old video of Dennis' work as well as other members of the Elite Fleet here in Virginia Beach. His AmTrack seen throughout the entire presentation:

https://youtu.be/czK6amSrtoM At 5:50 on this video you'll see his PT-boat laying down a perfect spread of depth charges (M-80's) over my submerged SKIPJACK (*******!).

And this just in from Dennis:

This is an AAVP7A1 Armored assault vehicle, also know as an "AMTRACK, or, "Hog" (for it's appearance). It's used by the marines to transport troops from an amphibious assault ship. It carries 19 troops and 3 crew, the vehicle commander, driver, and gunner. It weighs 26 tons and 26 feet long. "Hydrostatic drive" drives the tracks on land and the water jets in the water, the water jets are rated at 14,000 gpm. Max speed on land is 35 mph, in the water about 4 mph. The hull is aluminum, max thickness is 1.75 inches. Independent torsion bar suspension. The hull has big square nuts welded to it, called "armor bosses", they're used to mount the "EAAK" (enhanced applique armor kit). the cammo pattern that I have on the model is pre Dessert Storm, the came that is on most of them now is the dessert pattern. I bought a 1/35th scale Tamaya model, and scaled it up to 1/6th scale. When the model was about 75% complete, I took it to the marines at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Virginia Beach, VA. They gave me time to climb all over their vehicles to measure, for all the armor bosses and the smaller details that weren't on theta Maya model, that I used to build most of the model. They loaned me the camouflage pattern book so I could get the pattern correct. They even gave me a ride in the water, what a blast. Any question, feel free to contact me at: Dennis Allen-popeyesubs@yahoo.com, or (757)969 2842.

That was quite a surprise to see those underwater explosions in the video. Pretty Cool!
IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!

All sorts of questions came up from the depth charging. I thought for sure an oil slick or emergency surface would have ensued after that cluster was released over you. David, Any damage other than emotional?
How does the wick continue to burn underwater? Or is it encapsulated in the barrel shell?
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Back then (early 90's) we were doing all sorts of crazy **** at Trashmore: rocket-gliders launched off r/c barges (I was the de facto test-pilot as I was the only slob there with any serious flight ability); real-time passive sonar from an underway, submerged submarine model; practical depth-charges; practical torpedoes; a practical floating dry-dock; we even did a night-time burial at sea (lake) via r/c barge and 'honor' fleet -- we dumped a club members ashes in the center of the lake when no one was looking. Dennis', of course, was the guiding genius behind that maneuver, you should not be too surprised to learn.

All kinds of weird and wonderful **** going on in the day. Not any more: tight-asses on City Council shut the lake down -- all citizens can do with it now is look at the pretty water.

Anyway: about the unwarranted cruel, and destabilizing SKIPJACK-PT boat incident.

Dennis had talked about his PT's ability to toss a near perfect 'box' spread of M-80's. I, of course, said he was full of ****. He dared me to run an agreed too submerged track, and he would lay a spread over my boat and blow it to kingdom-come. The hook was firmly planted in my mouth at that point.

Well ... the rest is recorded history! The ******* did just that: he noted where the scope left the surface as I went deep, he turned into my track, laid the depth-charges at just the right moment, and they went off right over my boat, only three feet or so below the detonations. Wow!

Fortunately, and this is to your point, Tom: no damage to the SKIPJACK after its return for inspection. But my ears were still ringing from the sound -- at the time that boat was equipped with a little FM transmitter which sent audio to my head-phones which in turn were jacked into a little FM radio tucked in my shirt pocket, that radio tuned to the passive sonars RF carrier frequency. My ears rang for a full day after that incident!

Many M-80 type 'cherry-bombs' feature wax-coated fuses -- this permits their use when blowing toilets off the school bath-room walls -- and other aquatic centered acts of expression. So, they function just fine underwater. In the diving navy we called them, 'diver recall devices' (guess how we actually used these fire-works?!). We would order them by the hundreds ... maybe ten of 'em would actually be used on station. I still have a box full somewhere (just for you .... Dennis!). (God, I hope the ATF is not monitoring this ****!).

The launching mechanism in Dennis' boat takes advantage of that fuse: the depth-charge/cherry-bomb is placed over its launcher, the fuse run down the center of a compression springs coil. The end of the fuse making up to a spring loaded clip within the hull. The cherry-bomb sat over the now compressed 'launching spring'. The stored energy in the compressed spring is what projects the depth-charge away from the PT boat once a hot-wire (one of four -- all wired in parallel to a speed-controller) starts the fuse burning. The burnt fuse failing to hold the bomb against the spring pressure. And up and away the depth-charge goes, lit fuse and all. Dennis is one smart dude. Someday we hope to harness this energy for the forces of good rather than evil. (Yeah .... right).

Check the dictionary under, 'Mad Scientist'. That's right, pictured there is one Dennis Allen.
