It's been brought to my attention, on at least a couple of occasions, that someone out there is peddling in Thunder Tiger submarines and isn't an authorised Great Planes distributor, and its a part-time venture out of a basement. Because they don't get any price breaks, it would appear that they buy the boats from a local hobby shop and then mark them up by $300, selling the boat at around $800. How? Well, their line is that TT electronics suck, this sucks, that sucks and so they rebuild the boat.
I had a long chat with some of the Great Planes guys at the Chicago show, and like me, they believe there are no problems with this model's electrics or anything else.
Great Planes has recently taken over the Thunder Tiger product line from the now defunct Ace Hobby company, and their dealer application requirements seem to be specifically designed to exclude part-time basement dealers.
There is certainly no justification in paying an extra $300 for this model.
