    Skipjack 1:230 scale build

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! the sub bug bit me I found a Skipjack on ebay. I need to order some more stuff for it but the bank account needs to recover as I just bought a Taig lathe a week ago as well. This definitely wont be my last sub either you guys need a warning label on these things lol. I will take pics when I have some stuff to take pics of.

So you're the one who scooped my Skippie! (As fortune would have it I scored one from Denbigh Hobby in Newport News.)

One of the last, 'classic' brick-and-morter hobby shops.

So! You two were duking it out over that same kit. And here am I, swimming in 'em! Ha!

well got the top hull all fitted to the rear one question what do I use to glue the rudders on the rear to the push rods? I would think it needs to be something where I can get them off if I need to service that area. I am thinking RTV but I am not sure. I would like to have it roughly together by Tuesday so I can take it for a static display one of the local clubs is putting on. David I am hoping to get a few dirty looks lol.

                  Dirty looks are always good.

Don't glue the .014" brass operating shafts to their respective control surfaces. You bend a slight 'chink' into the brass wire that will cause the wire to stay in the little bore hole within the control surface. This is enough to hold the shaft and control surface together for most of the torque forces they will be subject too. But, with a very little effort you can pull the control surfaces away from their operating shafts for adjustment or repair.

ok got it thanks David. I got the sail on, and I tapped up the seam where the upper and lower hulls meet hoping to get that sorted tomorrow. I am also going to try getting the control surfaces mounted to the boat so I can show a work in progress at the event.

started to mess with the boat and not sure about where the kink should go should I put a small v in the middle of the control rod or at the end like a hook? I am probably overthinking this but don't want to mess up the delicate parts.

Wow, someone is on the fast track on status, I'm still on the aching posterior end name.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
