    USS Blueback restoration

I was recently lucky enough to acquire a special little boat. I'm hoping to get her in fighting shape in good order pretty quickly and now that I've learned a bit about detail painting, I hope to have it ready to go for Fleet run and Subfest 2026. First night she arrived, I unpacked and set up her tail feathers and screw, just wanted to be able to look at her in 1 piece for a bit before I started work.

The driver needed to be put back together and the lower hull had some chunks missing where the upper and lower hulls join. Hull repaired and driver is put together ready for dunking. once I have the driver ready with the battery I intend to use, I'll start trim and ballast. I ended up making new magnetic connectors, I've made quite a few by now for all the subs I've worked on and some for friends. I wanted to be able to remove them for any maintenance if required. I re-used the magnets that came with it along with some replacements as some were missing. Goal is to use as many original parts as I can. I'm also considering building a second driver, easy driver, for pond running/spare just in case.

      Watching this one.
Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.
