Albacore continued

Here we go with the periscope. It is removable. Since it has a good friction fit above and below, itll stay put. Later I will make a radar mast. Now, on with painting the scope.

If you will recall, the original rear bearing came with an extended inner race, for lack of a better term. That race was just perfect for allowing the first prop to push up against it to take the thrust load. However, since that bearing was sealed, I opted for a open bearing. They , however, were not available with an extended inner race. So my solution is pictured here. A thin copper washer that will go between the first prop and the rearmost bearing. I was looking thru my junk hardware collection that I have accumulated for just such a purpose. This time it paid off. The washer had to be a good fit around the shaft to touch just the inner race and not to touch the outer race. Otherwise we would have had unwanted drag. Why am I telling you what you already know? Because I am practicing my Typing.

... That's a way, way overdone sonar-window. Don't do it. What was I thinking!?

(Statute of Limitation has run on those Warrant, by the way!).

That model was fast as blazes and controllable at all but the very top-end, thanks to the near zero torque produced by the propulsor.

Speaking about what he is holding, it has a white stripe painted horizontally across the bow. Should I be including that on my rendering??

Just heard back from Jim at Albacore park maintanence. He sent me this picture and concurred that there is a frame with staggered screws running down the center.

It would appear that the plexiglass observation dome on the front of the sail is a two piece affair , with a seam dividing it in two, down the middle. I emailed our friends Jim and John at Albacore park to get their input.

Thats all the Dry Transfers. What a job. You shouldve seen me with with sharpened pencil and masking tape and the look of Agrevation. Also coming off with the numbers was, as you can see from some of the pictures, a measure of glue. Doesnt want to come off. Im thinking that after an application of clear Poly urethane and then the flat coat, itll all disappear.

Hit the sheet with a hot-air gun (carefull!) with the numbers still on the sheet, this will 'activate' the wax backing a bit so you'll transfer with less burnishing tool pressure.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH ME!! These dry transfers will take a "Light Sabre" to loosen them up.

I do apologize(embarasment) for that one, Im so easily entertained.

Heres what I think. On the right side, looking at the vertical row of numbers that go from 3 at the top down to 3 at the bottom. Notice the spacing changes. I think that those 4 go on the x-tail planes because of their heavy slant, the distance between numbers will increase. Conversly, The next set of three, the spacing seems to stay about the same but the numbers toward the bottom seem to get smaller. Those must go on the bow. The curved set at the very bottom must go on the earlier version of the Albacore when the numbers were painted on way up on the very front of the bow where the curve is more pronounced.
