Moving right along..........belatedly. Ok , here we see our tried and true D&E Miniatures 3" WTC single motor. It works GREAT! Always has. Very good control over vent and blow functions. I can make my Albacore hover without any problem. You are looking for the sweet spot. If you add a touch too much gas, hit a touch of vent. Youll get it. Well now out comes the single motor bulkhead and in with the twin motor job. Im glad the one Dave........OH.............I MEAN....He who shall not be Blamed, sent me, has the 1/8" push rods seals. Thats what I have been using on her. Im going to get some small countersunk screws and use them to mount the motors to the bulkhead instead of glueing them in. Then we will "Permatex Sleeve Retainer" glue the two brass gears to the motor shafts. Looking up inside the new Graupner Speed 400 motors I can see the suppression capaciters installed inside the endbell so we are good there. I will map out all the old wiring on paper in addition to these photos to ease reassm.Last edited by greenman407; 11-03-2012, 02:39 PM. -

Tonight I flat coated the upper hull. Tommorow , the lower hull will get the same treatment.Leave a comment:

Today is the day. Ive got the sail masked off and Im going to get the last coat on it today. The sail that is. Then Ill be free to flatten the whole thing. Then that will complete the exterior.Leave a comment:

I just found this the other day. It shows the Marlin. Guess what? Look on top of the sail. THERE IT IS!!! A good shot of the radar mast that was also used on the Albacore. Its a triangular shaped pod. Now I can feel comfortable making the radar mast.Last edited by greenman407; 10-05-2012, 07:30 AM.Leave a comment:

Whats left? Quite a bit actually. I have been stalled for the past couple of weeks. You see, I got some overspray on the sail. Which means that I have to lightly sand the sail, tape it off, and repaint it. What a hassle. So I have kinda had a mental block over it. I will try to get it done this week. Then we will spray it down with Clear flat. Then its on to the WTC mods.Leave a comment:

As good as my word. Here are the photos of the finished plexiglass windows and their metal frames. As soon as the clear flat is applied, it will tone down the bright metalic silver. Oh yes, also one of the sail rudder repair due to overly sticky masking tape..Last edited by greenman407; 09-20-2012, 04:15 PM.Leave a comment:

Thursday night I finished painting the center frame going up thru the middle of the observation dome. Ill get some pictures up Monday. Masking the sail a hundred times with regular masking tape caused some of the filler to come off of the sail rudder. Thatll take a couple of days to get straightened out. What I learned from that is to use Blue masking tape in the future. Its bite is not so aggresive. Then all thats left is flattening the finish. Then its on to the reconfiguring of the old 3" subdriver to power this thing.Leave a comment:

The second prop is usually smaller and with less blades because it operates more efficiently than the forward prop. Modern UK boats tend to get round the torque roll problem by incorporating a shroud with fixed stators.Leave a comment:

The after screw recovers the swirl energy (translating it to axial flow) from the forward screw; less turbulent wake (tough for wake-homing torpedoes) and sonar detection; Torque is taken out of the ship-control problem; and this type propulsor is tougher to classify with passive sonar (though computers have pretty much resolved that situation).

It does look good... Now please excuse my novice-heathan knowledge but why have two props on the same shaft/drive chain? How is effective especialy as the fartherist one is smaller?Leave a comment:
