Bob Martin was kind enough to sell me one of these kits. It's one of those subs I always liked for some reason. I just love German U-boats. Something about them. But I digress. I found the kit rather refreshing. Many of you know that I have built a hell of a lot of submarines. Recently I sold off all the big stuff. I'm about to turn 70 and although my health is good so far the large subs are just getting harder to transport and handle.
This boat along with my Ark model type 7 are the perfect size IMHO. I had an old BigDave RCABS cylinder and finally after many years of successful use I had a CATO. Not more. I converted it to a snort system as per David's rather excellent if not simple and studid proof design. When I ran my Type 7 for the first time at the pond I had the best time ever. No leaks and a reliable system that for hours kept me entertained.
The conversion was easy. I got a pump from Amazon, made a valve system clone of Davids and tested it with excellent results. Even followed his advice and converted to 2.4 ghz.
The boat is nearly finished and I'm having a ball building it.
Thanks to Bob and David for always being there.
Here's some pictures.
I have a video too of the cylinder being tested and built. If you have an interest I'll post it but I'll be testing the entire boat soon so I thought I'd wait until then.
I still have parts to add, PE, scopes, snorkels and fun stuff like that but it's getting there.
