The most important part is getting a nice deck and conning tower. The deck for this Engel IX D2 was bought at:

Modelluboot, RC Modellbau, CNC Modellbau, Tauchsysteme, Modellbau ist unsere Leidenschaft

It was the best thing I bought for this sub. What i got was the Upgrade Set type IXD2 in 1/45. It comes with a full deck and extra long conning tower. However they also sell a Upgrade Set type IXc in 1/45. You would need to email them asking if they can reduce the scale to 1/48 for your U505. But that shouldn't be a problem as they do make this stuff on demand. These sets are not the cheapest, but they look dam great, as you can see by the deck and conning tower from this build

The Airforce museum in Dayton has one of these on display. Only one I ever saw IRL.

The "Fly" is done. It was tougher to build than the sub... As soon as my eyes un-cross I will set to the business of getting everything organized for Subfest.

Thanks guys! David managed to find a 1/48th Focke-Achgelis Fa 330 gyrocopter model for static display. I have never seen the level of detail in a model like this. It is testing the limits of my abilities.

It will make a nice display piece when done.

The sub is completely done. I had to do a few minor adjustments to the placement of the weight in the hull to get the trim just right but it is ready to go.
