I'm back at the hobby - my Phd (DBA) is passed and I can get back into having weekends etc. 5 years of "trying" to find and not finding hobby time sucks, but hey I'm glad got the opportunity (read scholarship and tuition) to get a great grad school education. Here in this thread is some work that my son James now 11 and I are working on - 2 OTW subs Trafalgar class (being built as HMS Talent) and OTWs other 1/72 kit of the Valiant. Both are somewhat advanced in the build as we moved house / interstate for a new job I commenced after I handed in my thesis and we did and advance as much as possible on these but not record it.
Talent is being built by James and I have to say the only thing I have touched so far on the boat is the adding the really beautiful pump jet. My son's boat has lots of dings / scraps / drill cracks etc, and he's rapidly cleaning these up. He started building this on his own at aged 7 under my limited time supervision. I'm proud of what he has done so far.
Conqueror (Conks) has 2 R&R engineering gas torpedoes installed - these shoot tubes 1 and 3. Churchill and Valiant has 3 tubes across the bow. I am utilizing the R&R torpedoes - these are not 1/72 scale, and the best I can make out is that their around 1/48 scale in length and around 1/60 scale in diameter. As the external doors (square / oblong) on Conks is larger than the inner doors of the tubes I can fire the over-sized fish through the 1/72 scale outer openings.
I have had David's fine 1/72 torpedoes previously. They worked flawlessly. However, I'm going with bigger over-sized fish in this model as I can simply see them better in the water!
