U-91035 "PROTEUS" Build Log 2019-12-09: Power Compartment

Now that most of the PROTEUS has its operational systems completed, I turned to the Power Compartment.

This is where I’ll charge the Batteries, put the model in “STANDBY Mode”, remotely switch from STANDBY to UNDERWAY Mode, and I can remotely energize the lighting. All based on a 2 CH 433Mhz switch.

Why have a standby mode? I did this with SHARK and I may as well do it with all my boat’s. When I’m at an all-day Regatta, I leave her on a mooring as opposed to dragging her in and out all day. I theoretically have a 7hr run time with PROTEUS, and a 14hr runtime with SHARK.

I’ve been using TinkerCad online. Though I have Dessault Solidworks at work, I find TinkerCad easy enough to do what I need.

The light blue transparent cylinder and rectangle represent the "Gatorade" cap opening sitting on the top of the S3 T1000 Dry box.
I was able to "simulate" opening with NO interference.

I positioned the switch and EC3 Charging connector within it, and the red "20A Relay" below.

I use THAT to build the structure they'll sit on.

Printing away with ABS in my Monoprice VOXEL! (I love this thing!!)
    The term is "rapid prototyping"!!

Also, I can monitor the printing anywhere with Polar Cloud

Here I drilled the cover of the S3 T1000 watertight box for the “Gatorade” lid. Makes for even easier access to the Charging Connector and STANDBY Switch!

I’ll have it all together this week. Fortunately I’m off over the Christmas Holiday to start the assembly of PROTEUS.

Nice work there! Gatorade, huh would not have thunk that.......
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

      Old school lol.

With two, one fore, one aft, on the older rectangular watertight boxes (ones with all the sealing nuts) you could ventilate the boat with a hair dryer to remove moisture.

You very rarely had to remove all the nuts for the on/off switch and charging, or airing out as said. I only went that far at end of season for maintenance.
