A bit more work on the sail today. After 39 degrees yesterday; today is cool and rainy. Weird weather but good for pottering around in the shed.



A few more holes, hatches and such and it looks half decent.

I'm putting some detail on the sail to see how it looks. The plans that I have are not so great and a lot of the detail on this sail is lifted from photographs. Still not entirely happy with the shape. It looks a bit too long.

Really? I know it is not the most clear photo, but at the top of the page, there is that black and white shot of a November from above, and that sail looks plenty long. Especially compared to yours.



How does it look with a nose on the boat? Even just a rough shape so you can see it in complete overall length. I know you were chasing perfection, but it all looks great so far!

Thanks. I have all those and they are all inaccurate. I have a small portion of the tail which is accurate, however it is incomplete. No doubt Merriman's third law will ensure that the accurate plans only turn up once I am finished.

There isn't much to this boat at present; just getting the rear end sorted out and making the sail look slightly better. At the moment its built to the dimensions given in the plan but I am dubious about its accuracy. That is compounded by the many versions of sail used on this class.

Yes. I thought so too. I took the shape of the sectioned drawing that you sent me. Quite thin and quite high. Also quite square.

Both need a sharp edge on the sternward end.they look like a plane in horizontal profile

The shorter sail is the right one for 627 although 627 and 627A have nearly identical sails only differing in the sonar assembly. 627 A sails are slightly less streamlined, the profile courve of the sails roof is more straight. The high sail is of projekt 645/k-27, a november-subclass that looked different in many ways.

The Zwezda 1/350 model of the November contains two sails that are very comparable in shape to the ones you have produced. As I am no friend of ICloud at the moment my mobile camera is blocked. If any one out there has the said kit maybe you can take a Picture? / Fredrik

Have a look at the front of the sail in this photograph. o Not vertical - its raked!


I have two sets of plans that have two different sails. One is high and thin; the other is short and fat. Which one is correct?
