After getting the history on it from Chris Cloke, I was happy. Seems as this is the very 1st Type II full kit he made and sold. I was very fortunate to be able to obtain all the new parts needed to make this boat right as they are no longer produced. I still have an 80" Type II hull to build as well.Comment

I have decided that i do not like the plastic control arms in the kit. As the rear arm is not accessible after construction, if you glue the rear hull halve together, a more foolproof control needs to be made. I will use 1/8" square brass tubing and solder arms to them. Once these are in, they should be trouble free and will make the rear arm a bit longer than the kit arm to allow for enough movement of the planes. I also will not be using the 'teflon'? stuffing boxes as they are impervious to both glue and paint, so brass stuffing boxes, epoxied into the hull will be used. The 35mm brass props are perfect and were included in the weights and measurements supplied to our Lord and Master.3 PhotosComment

Do you have a thread on the 80" type II? And the sheer line restorations? I have a scratch built project 1/24 IIA that has been sitting for awhile, but the deck is just about finished. If you decide to replace the decks of your boats and want to use wood where was used and scale diamond plate for the various fore and after decks tower steps and plates, I found it easy, after experimenting with materials.Comment

the actual boat was 140 ft. Half inch to the foot is 6 foot, fits in the f 150. Thinking about a little davit on the dock to drop it in with,at the house. I have an old Merriman skipjack 3" WTC with balast sitting in the pile that's going to get restored to go with the wet hull concept. It was originaly to be a static so some alterations are in order. Winter project, possibly. I have everything to complete it, but the time, and motivation. The two most important things.

Worked on the rear linkages today. 1/8" square brass tube fits much better for the dive plane shafts, though a bit must be shaved out of the planes. Trying to use the kit provided linkage for the rudders, and with some trimming and shaving on the links, I actually have good throw on the rudders. I plan to glue the rear hull section together, so wanted to make certain I could get to the rudder links, and tighten the set screws. Dive plane linkage is essentially permanent if the halves are glued together.

I'm in the process of making new steering links for the rudder. Not that they work that bad, just a PITA to tighten the set screws.Comment

I've just secured one of these models from Bob, and this thread has answered a few questions that I had as I went through the parts in the kit. Have you completed this build, or put it aside for now?
As I'm using this kit as a return to the hobby after a bunch of years off, I find myself way behind the curveball on a lot of the news technology in use these days.
I'm waiting for a cylinder for it, and in the meantime I'm trying to catch up on all the new radios, batteries, electronics, etc.Comment
